MANY WILL ATTEND One Fare lor Round Trip for Dele, gates Attending Development League Convention. That the Oregon Development League Convention, to be held at the Mar-quam GrandTheatre, in Portland, under the auspices of the Portland Commercial Club, August 2 and 3, will be a magnificent success is now assured. It is desired that all dele gates who can do so will be at the ' Marquum Grand by 9:30 so as to register and receive badges, as it is especially desired that the Convention bo called to order not later than 10 o'clock and get down to work imme diately for complete and effective organization. There will be but few set speeches and these will be delivered by practi cal men in the different industries, and after each address delegates to the Convention will bo given an opportunity to ask the speakers such questions as they desire and to com ment upon the facts presented. It has been suggested that it would add greatly to the effectiveness of the work if the delegates from different com munities will jierfeet an organization of their delegation before leaving home. If each and every delegation will prepare condensed reports of actual production, giving not only the re suits accomplished by growers and producers but the name of that grower or producer, in the same plain, direct language that an Oregon farmer would use in writing to an old friend in one of the distant states, then we will have matter for the use of the newspapers and the Immigration De partments of the railroads that will secure results. These reports should be written in duplicate, not only for the use of the Portlaud papers, but to insure a completo report of the pro ceedings. If the Convention can take the form of an exjierience meeting, in which long speeches are left unsaid, and bright, pithy, striking points are made, it will insure not only the per manency of the Oregon Development League, but will bo of benefit to every section of this state. A round trip open rate, good for everybody, has been put on by the railroads, and tickets are good on all trains arriving in Portland on the afternoon of August 1 and morning of August 2, good to return until August 4, except that fares of GO cents or less will not be reduced. It is ad visable that those attending the Con vention should get definite particulars from their local agent as to the time f the departure of trains. Residents of Oregon who take ad vantage of this rate and are not dele gates to the Convention, will be welcomo to attend the Convention, occupying scuts in the balcony and gallery. The seats in the parquet will bo reserved exclusively for delegates. desiring to keep a record of this Con vention, not only in typo, but in illus trated form for general circulation, a snap-shot photograph will be made exactly at eleven o'clock Tuesday morning, August 2. The taking of tills picture will only occupy a minute or two of the Convention's time. A committee from the Woman's Club of Portland will have charge of a trolley ride to bo given to the wives, daughters sisters and other ladies accompanying delegates to the Con vention, for which four large cars have been supplied with the compli monts of the Oregon Water Power & Itailway Company. This special train of trolley cars will leave the corner of First and Alder streets exactly at :t p. m. August 2 for a trip to Canemah Park, beyond Oregon City. Delegates to the Convention and ladies accompanying them are cordially invited to attend a reception as the guests or the Commercial Club Tuesday evening from eight to eleven o'clock, and during both days of the Convention, the rooms and especially the tower of the Commercial Club, will be open for the use of visitors and delegates. All those who have never had the pleasure of a birds-eyo view of Portland should improve this opportunity. The Convention will adjourn in ample time to give all the delegates and the ladies accompanying them an opportunity to enjoy a trolley ride over the city, in which ten open cars will be used, jointly supplied with the compliments of the City & Suburban Railway Company and the Portland Railway Company. These cars will start from Third and Yamhill streets Wednesday afternoon, promptly at 3 o'clock, and two citizens of Portland will bo upon each car to joint out places of esju'cial interest.
