Thornton placed 24th in the boys race with a time of 17 minutes, 36 seconds. Beam finished 40th in the girls race with a time of 22:11. Pop Warner team wins title DALLAS — Dallas’ Pop Warner Juniors varsity team won the Mid-Valley Championship on Oct. 29 after defeating Corvallis 26-8. Dallas played Vancouver in the regional quarterfi- nals on Sunday at Reser Stadium. Dallas won 39-26 to advance to the region semifinals. A photo of the team can be found online at www.polkio.com. Williams catches touchdown SAN DIEGO — Former Western Oregon football player Tyrell Williams had six catches for 65 yards and a touchdown, helping the San Diego Chargers defeat the Tennessee Titans 43-35 on Sunday. Williams has 38 catches for 595 yards and three touchdowns so far this season. INDEPENDENCE — From the game’s opening snaps, one thing was clear — Dal- las’ football team was on a mission. And it would not be de- nied. Running back Tanner Earhart opened the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown run — the first of four scores for the senior — and No. 8 Dallas built a 50-0 lead en route to a 50-14 vic- tory over No. 9 Eagle Point on Friday in the first round of the OSAA 5A state play- offs. “It was amazing,” quarter- Earhart back Caed- mon Blair said. “It was better than any league game you could win. It’s a dream come true to win a playoff game.” Earhart finished the game with 153 rushing yards. Running back Tristan Evans ran for 103 yards and a touchdown, while Blair recorded 58 yards and a touchdown. Blair also hit senior wide receiver Aaron White for an 80-yard touch- down pass. See CENTRAL, Page 12A PREP CROSS-COUNTRY Cross places 37th at state championships Dallas sophomore has strong finish at OSAA State Cross-Country meet on Saturday By Lukas Eggen The Itemizer-Observer EUGENE — Dallas sophomore Trevor Cross placed 37th in the boys race of the OSAA state cross-country championships on Saturday. Cross finished the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17 minutes, 9 seconds at Lane Community College in Eugene. “I had a good experience at state,” Cross said. “I liked the com- petition, and the course was pretty good. I didn’t run as fast as I wanted or placed as well as I wanted to be- cause my shoul- ders were too tight and I started Cross cramping.” Cross also qualified for state in the 3,000-meter run during track and field season earlier this spring and drew from that expe- rience to help him pre- pare. “It helped because I knew what to ex- pect,” Cross said. Junior Andy Moore, of Crater, won the boys race in 15:21.
