History Museum shows new display The Polk County History Museum, 560 S. Pacific Highway W., Rickreall, in- vites the public to see a new display. Photos from Camp Fire Girls taken on visits to Camp Kilowan from the museum’s archives have been placed near the front of the museum. Doll show returns on Saturday The Wagon Wheel Doller Doll Club welcomes back the 14th Fall Doll Show and Sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Polk County Fairgrounds, 560 S. Pacific Highway W., Rickreall. Early sales are from 9 to 10 a.m. with an $8 admission. Reg- ular sales are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a $5 admis- sion. Children 10 and younger are free. There will be more than 100 sales tables featuring dolls of every kind, bears, miniatures and doll related items. Club members expected to receive 40 quilts to display, but ended up with 134. Cohen, Med, MLIS, will lead a discussion on messages from politi- cians, news sources and other media, how to estab- lish truth from fiction using critical thinking skills, and where to find accurate in- formation. Western Oregon Univer- sity has waved the $60 un- dergraduate and graduate application fees for current members of the armed services and former mem- bers who were honorably discharged. WOU has been named a Yellow Ribbon program par- ticipant and has been recog- nized by GI Jobs Magazine as a GI Friendly campus. For more information on WOU’s Veterans Success Author Jim Hill will visit Dallas Public Library, 950 Main St., Dallas, Thursday at 7 p.m. Hill will read from his new book, “The New ‘N Word: The White Middle Class.” Hill became the first person of color to be elect- ed to a statewide office in Oregon in 1992 when he served two terms as State Treasurer.
