An opening reception for the exhibit is scheduled Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ash Creek Arts Center Gallery at MaMere’s Bed & Breakfast, 212 Knox St. N., in Monmouth. The exhibit is open through April 4 and can be viewed by appointment at MaMere’s. The exhibit celebrates the first 10 years of the “My Day” series of handmade art and poetry books by artist Nate Orton and poets Chris Ashby and James Yeary. Spring gun show set this weekend The Polk County Fair- grounds and Event Center is the site for the 2015 Rickreall Spring Gun Show, scheduled Saturday and Sunday. This is an opportunity to buy, sell and trade. Guns, knives, ammunition and col- lector items will be on dis- play and available for sale. Show hours are Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $6, with chil- dren under 12 admitted free. Food is available for pur- chase and parking is free. For more information: 503-623-3048. 4-H photography class scheduled Polk County-Oregon State University Extension Service is offering a workshop on “Getting to Know the 4-H Photography Class” for youths in grades 4-12. On Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., attendees will learn about the new and old photography classes from the 4-H photography super- intendent. Participants should bring a “stick/jump drive” with a least five of their photos. The class will be held at the Polk County Extension Office, 289 E. Ellendale Ave., Suite 301, Dallas. Old-fashion square dance set Saturday Guthrie Park Community Center will host its next old- time square dance Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. All ages are welcome for an evening of dancing to the music of Cash & Company. The event, which was to be a fundraiser to help pur- chase Rapid Intervention Team rescue bags for the Dallas and Rickreall fire sta- tions, is tentatively planned to be rescheduled in the fall. Donations sought for ‘country store’ The Polk County Master Gardener Plant Sale Country Store is seeking tax-de- The Pentacle Theatre will host a special performance of its production of “Young Frankenstein” Tuesday at 7 p.m. to benefit Central High School’s Performing Arts Boosters. The play takes place at the Pentacle Theatre, 324 52nd Ave. NW, in West Salem. Tickets are $30 and in- clude dessert. Central High drama and choir teacher/director Jeff Witt plays the role of Igor in the musical. The show is a musical adaptation of the 1970s com- edy film by Mel Brooks based on the original Mary Shelley story about Fredrick Frankenstein, grandson of infamous monster creator Victor Frankenstein.
