Drowned. Foreman Thos Moore, of the Cor vallis saw mill, was drowned in the treacherous waters of the McKenzie, last Saturday. H e was engaged in running a drive o f logs down the liv er for Corvallis and stepped off into what he thought was shallow water but which was deeper than he thought and the swift current car ried him off bis feet and after drifting down the stream for a hundred yards or so he was drawn under one of tho numerous whirl pools of that treacherous stream. Tho McKenzie is noted for its dangers and has an annual crop of drownings. Mr Moore belonged to the K O T M and was said to be insured for $2000. He leaves a wife and live children living at Cor vallis. hemia. He is a young man of merit and industry and is to be congratu lated upon bis choice for a life companion. Miss G ough is among the most charming aud accomplished young ladies of our city numbering all who know her as friends. She is the grand daughter of one of Cottage G rove’s pioneers, Mr R M Carey. Beautiful and accomplished in manners always, yet she never looked better tliau, when standing by tho side of her promising young husband and dressed in a charming gown of white organdy, she pledged her love, and life to her future lord and master. Oulv a few intimate friends of the bride aud groom were invited to the nuptials and dinner, among them were Miss Myrtle Hale, o f California, Miss H olly Hawkins, of this city, and Mr Ed Jinks, of this city. Mrs W F Neat and her daughter, Mrs Westcarson met with what nearly proved a fatal accident Mon day morning at the railrqad crossing near the residence of Mr Edgar King just below town. The ladies were'driving a bu ggy on the road to ¡Saginaw. When they reached the point or curve at the crossing they stopped their team and listened fur the cars hut not hearing any they proceeded to drive across the track when the engine o f a fast froight dashed into view and struck the vehicle, throwing it over the grade w ith its occupants literally smashing the buggy into kindling wood. The ladies were both badly bruised and the daughter’ s arm was kroken. The unfortunate ladies were im O N E N IG H T O N L Y mediately brought to town and medical assistance procured when it was found that neither of them was dangerously hurt though their wounds were very paiufull. The ladies are positive the train did not whistle at the crossing and it would seem that if such was the cose the accident was purely the result of 4500 square foot special scenery. 2S realistic scenes. v ruuinal carelessness on the part of tableaux.
