Com m issioner o f Pensions W are recently received an interesting let ter from a citizen o f Illinois. This letter was as follows : “ I am now getting a pension o f $30 a m onth. R ecently the lord has prospered me, and I do not think I should get so m uch money. I gave m y services to the country, and I think I should have some pension, o f course, but I think $30 a month is to much. Is there any way J can have m y pen sion reduced or suspended while I enjoy the prosperity that is mine at present?” It w ill be observed that this Illinoisian gave Providence, rather than the republican party, credit for his prosperity ; and because o f this grave offense the administra tion m ay refuse to do anything to give him relief in the way of a reduction o f his pension. In all seriousness, however the letter is somewhat remarkable and indicates that the author is a good citizen and one who is not w illing to accept, even at the hands o f the governm ent, money which he does not need.— Commoner. “ U ncle S am ” H andsaker .
