Twice-a-week Republic Ciucinnutti Enquirer W eekly Examiner Weekly Oregonian Celebrate at Cottage Grove year. this The cilice o f attorney general is a useless expense to the state and should he abolished. This fact is brought forcibly to mind in the case where tho state became involved in litigation with the fire insurance company over tho loss sustained by the burning of one o f the reform school buildings. The attorney general rendered an opinion, that tho state could not collect the policy. An attorney, in the face of this opinion, agreed to collect it for 10 per cent o f the amount recover ed, and the result was that ho col lected $9,300 at a cost to the state of $930. In tho case o f the defaul ting school lund clerk, who robbed the state o f $35,000, the attorney general stipulated the state out ot court in an action to recover on the bond. The otlieo has never l>een held only by one attorney— Geo E Chamberlain— whose opinions car ried weight. The state should ap propriate about one-third the amount o f the cost o f the attorney general's etlice, and let the state officials employ thoir own legal ad visors. They would get a lawyer for this purpose and not a pot-house politician who knows no law. The next legislature can begin a needed reform by abolishing the office and save a useless expense.— Dispatch. * LACES * * COME IN AND SEE OUR LINE OF SAMPLES, © 0 © © T a t Bici Our Shirt-w aist Offer w ill be a G reat Feature d i r p J * e Fiumi.
