Doth lungs were pierced by a piece of wood over an inch in di ameter, and being wedged between the ribs required the aid of two uieu to withdraw it, yet his life was pro longed for over five days afterward. Williams was about 35 years of age, lie leaves a wife but no other rela tives iu this state. His mother lives in Michigan, Ha was a social mem ber of the Woodman of the- World Camp hero, and will be buried by that erdor this afternoon in the Drain cemetery. Secretary Hard, of the mining ex change, has returned from Cottage Grove and the Bohemia mining dis trict says the Telegram. He cover ed i)0 miles on horseback making the principal properties iu the camp, and what is unusual for this season of the year encountered no snow. In speaking of the camp Mr Hard this morning said: "Tliore is more activity in the Bo hemia miuiug district than ever there has been before, and if it gets the projected railroad from Cottage Grove there is no reason why Bo hemia should not furnish a large share of Oregon’s annual output of gold. Development work is being prosecuted with energy. At the Vesuvius the uprise recently made establishes the continuity of the ox idized ore body from the surface to tbe 350 foot level. The troubles of the Riverside property have been settled, tho men payed off and development work is also being carried on at the Oregou-Colorudo. The Helena mill is shut down, but underground work is still in pro gress. ” Mr Hard brought sonic fine speci- meuB of Oregon-Colorano ores back with him. Wednesday night ho at tended tLo mass meeting of citizens and property-owners held at Cottogo Grove for the purpose of making some of the backward land owners come to time iu the matter of grant ing rights of way for tho projected Bohemia railroad. In reference to tho meeting Mr Hard said: “The meeting was harmonious and all present seemen to be anxious that every obstacle to tho building of the road be removed. B F Morphy, the promoter of the road, represented that ho had hacking to the extent of $500,000, and that the money was already put up. All present pledged their hearty support to the enterprise, and a committeo was appointed to assist Mr Morphy to secure the rights of way still desired. If the promoters of the road have the money ns they say they have there is uo reason why the Bohemia distaict should not havo the railroad inside of a year.” . Francis Perry Whit# was born near Cottage Grove, April 5, 1772. He graduated from the State University iu the class of 98, died Jan 8, 1902 at Express, Baker county, Oregon of fieavt failure. Iu his death he leaves to mourn his decease a beloved mother three sisters and one brother and a large number of other relatives and friends. He was beloved and re spected by all who knew him.
