The editor o f the Leader has not seen a great deal o f the roads in this vicinity, but has seen enough to convince him that, in the quality o f the roads leading into town, Cottage Grove is one o f the most fortunate cities in the whole coast country. What ever may be the condition o f the roads farther out, the roads close to town are a wonderful sight better than the average country roads, and with very little re pairing each year ought to re main so indefinitely. I). QUILLEN, Editor and Manager There can be no question in the mind any close observer o f events that, there is a good time coming for all the Pacific Coast country. With the amount o f advertising this section is getting through the coming exposition, the opening o f the Panama ca nal, and in many other ways, it is becoming better known to Easterners than ever before, and thousands o f people in all parts o f the East and Middle West are making plans to see the Coast states within the next eighteen months. This means that hund reds o f new homes will be estab lished, thousands o f acres clear ed, new farms opened up, and our facilities for production will be doubled in a very short time. More than that, there is going to come a tremendous influx o f for eign immigration, which it will tax the ingenuity o f the people to handle to advantage; but which, i f properly handled, will make for the development and enrich ment o f our state and entire Pa cific Coast country. What is most needed now is for the peo ple to wake up to the fact that these things are going to hap pen, and get ready to reap the greatest possible profit from their coming.
