T h is has proven the most enjoy able as well as profitable encam p ment ever participated in by the com pany. T he instructions in h andling the large port defense guns were teplete in detail and the ‘boys” showed themselves adepts in taking training, and proved conclusively to the authorities that the h arb o r will be safe when left in their hands in att event that this should ever become necessary. Mines were exploded on the Col um bia b ar and all the perform ances through which it would he neces sary to go in case of real trouble and they were called upon to sink real battleships. On W ednesday of last week at the session o f'th e Oregon Develop ment League the feature of g reat est interest was th e reading of an address of Jas. J. Hill, the railroad m agnate, by another person, made necessary by the inability of Mr. Hill to be present.
