A very large gathering of rela tives an d friends were in atten d ance at the funeral services and burial of the rem ains of Mrs. C larence Morss and infant babe, wbo died at the fam ily home iu east C ottage G rove gDct. 4, 1909. T he service was conducted by Rev. H enry L. N ave of A lbauy, former ly pastor of th e Presbyterian church of th is city, of which church Mrs. Morss w as a devoted member. T he floral offerings were profuse an d beautiful and mother an d babe were tenderly laid to rest in the sam e casket iu the Shield’s cemetery not far distant from the Morss home. Mrs. John Kohls, grandm other ot deceased and Mrs. Jo h n Fritz, mother of deceased of McGregor, Iowa, were present at the funeral services. K EM — At th e home of her sister, Mrs. Sbiuii in west Cottage Grove, F riday evening, Oct. 8, 1909, Miss M alinda A nn Kent, aged 30 years, 10 m onths and 1 day, of tuberculosis. Deceased w as a dau g h ter of Mr. O. II. Kent and was born in W a r ren county, Iu d iau a, Dec. 7, 1878. W ith her parents she resided in Illinois and also iu N ebraska, and when about 17 years of- age ac com panied the family to Colorado where she lost her former good health and fell a victim to a n e r vous com plication and pleursy. the latter trouble effecting her lungs. She spent a season in Arizona and then cam e to P ortland this state. Iu N ovem ber soon after Messrs Kem and Shinti purchased the Cottage G rove electric light plant, the families cam e to this city to reside and at C hristinas she assist ed iu preparing the Christm as dec orations last winter, but soon thereafter was taken ill and failed tn health rapidly uutil death re lieved her sufferings. D uring all this tim e she re m ained pleasant aud cheerful aud bore her sufferings with the g reat est fortitude. She was a great lover of Bowers and the m any floral tributes of friends presented d u rin g her illness was a great com fort and joy to her. T h e rem ains were tak en to the Portland crem atory S unday and crem ated, a beautiful rose bush growing iu th e well kept crem a tory grounds, was selected, ac cording to custom , as a depository for the ashes, th is rose thereafter bearing the nam e of the deceased, is so recorded, and carefully cared for thereafter.
