JOSEPH FURAY DRAWS COME INTO THE GARDEN Spokaue, August 12.— The great est of the three famous Indian laud drawings began shortly after 9:30 o'clock this uioruiug in the big wire cage that has been erected just a few rods from the shore at Couer d’Alene. Idaho. Six thou sand numbers are being drawn to day to decide who shall have a chance to procure one of the 2,500 land claims on the Flathead Indian reserve in northwestern Montana. Today 1500 names are to be chosen, ! and Friday and Saturday will com plete this part of the work. Two ! thousand names were drawn for the Flathead Indian reservation, [Joseph Furay, of Warsaw, In diana, being the first picked out in the thousands of applications. Furay is 33 years of age, and weighs 200 pounds. After the first name was drawn the proceedings were perfunctory. Crow, of Lorane, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1909, at the horns of his brother, J . Hardy Crow, after a prolonged illness, aged 74 years. He was a native of Missouri, crossing the plains to Oregon in 1852 aud has resided iu the Lorane valley since 1853.
