ocerous, the most feared of jungle
animals, at close range. Roose­
velt at the time was in hiding to
get a shot at a hippopotamus,
when the rhinocerous suddenly ap­
peared and charged at him.

thoroughly circulated in Southern
Oregon in Jackson county. Rep

There is a wide stretch of
country between Fugene and Rose-
burg and it will be converted into
a new county some day. F.ugene
people are very much opposed to
the new county and are preparing
to call a conference and see what
opposition cau Ire brought to hear
or whether to make Cottage drove
a fight. The new county would
reduce Fugene’s importance as a
political and legal center. It is
believed the name of Senator J.
W. Nesmith will gain the county
the necessary votes, outside of the
question of the merits of the case.

City Schools Fine Exhibit.
A large cabinet made into sec­
tions displaying the work of the
various grades and pictures from
interesting points in and about
this city displayed on the outside
has been prepared by I’rof. Barnes
into'suitable shape to send to the
Alaska- Yukon-Pacific fair and
was sent to Seattle to_ the schools
exhibit Tuesday morning. It con­
sists of pictures of tire schools as
well as the graduating class of
lfXV) aud I’rof. Barnes on the out­
side of the cabinet, and made a
very good display indeed for Cot
tage Grove. Incidentally the pro­
posed Nesmith county is featured
for a little boost. All of the
grades have some of their work
in this cabinet*, which without
doubt will compare favorably with
any shown at the fair, even from
cities much larger -than Cottage
Grove.
