The petition for an initiative

now and Jackson county will con

There is a wide stretch of
country between Fugene and Rose-

a new county some day. F.ugene
people are very much opposed to
the new county and are preparing
to call a conference and see what
opposition cau Ire brought to hear

reduce Fugene’s importance as a
political and legal center. It is
believed the name of Senator J.
W. Nesmith will gain the county
the necessary votes, outside of the
question of the merits of the case.

THE TELEPHONE GIRL.
The telephone girl sits still in her chair

She knows every man who is mean to

that she knows
It would turn half our friends into bit

She would sow a small wind that
would soon be a gale,
Engulf us in trouble and land us in jail:
If she would let go her story which
gaining in force
Would cause half of our wives to sue

She would get all the churches mixed

And turn all our days into sorrowing

In fact, she could keep the whole town

If she’d tell the tenth part of the
