found several letters oyer the sig­
natures of prominent union aud
labor leaders taking a decidedly
different view of the militia and
National Guard from that held
and expressed by his nibs, Bill
Haywood. Thess letters, strongly
denying any opiosiliou to these
military organizations are signed
by such prominent labor leaders as
Samuel Oompers, president Ameri­
can Federation of bailor; A. B.
Garretson, president Order Rail­
road Conductors; Peter W . Collins,
president Brotherhood Iilectrical
Workers aud Geo. Preston, Gener­
al Secretary Machinists Associa­
tion.
Haywood's visit to Cottage
Grove did not have a tendency to
help the pause of socialism in this
community.
