This is one of nature's hap py provisions—eternal summer for those who can not endure a more rigid or severe climate. White et ux, to the Pub lic; tract iti sec. 34, tp. 20, s. r. is S A V I N G Q 8 C A R BABNIOS Scaly leg among chickens is caused by a small parasitic insect which works on the legs of the chickens causing secretions which form under the scales. The work of this minute insect is not only annoying to the fowls but saps their vitality. Often the scales are knocked loose, causing the legs to bleed. The parasite spreads more rapidly when fowls are confined. As winter comes on and chickens are put into their houses for roost ing, examine them for seal .• leg, for if it is in the flock it will, spread rapidly in the hen house. The best time to examine and treat them is at night. First wash the diseased Tegs with warm soapy water to loosen the scales, then apply carbolated vaseline. It is best to treat every fowl to make a sure job. Two treatments about a week apart usually kills all the insects and cures the legs. Three good treatments never fail to do the work.
