We were very sorry that Miss Alice Wheeler, the short hand teacher at the school met with an accident while sleigh riding near the school. j According to Dr. Paine’s state ment at the Ivugene county divis ion conference, Cottage Grove and vicinity, including Creswell, is considered the “ meat and milk of the I.ane county cocoanut” by the Eugeueites, hence their strenuous objections to county division. Intermediate This week Sam Pearce, a mem ber of the well known and pros perous mercantile firm of Pearce Brother, sold his interests to Mr. M. Shepardson, who rceutly com pleted a beautiful home in this city and also purchased a nice farm near Walker station north of Cottage Grove. The new firm will be styled the “ Cottage Grove Mercantile C o.,” and will carry even a larger stock than hereto fore. They expect to continue to please their many customers by giving them the best in the market at only a living profit, and by the same fair, courteous treatment, whicli has always characterized the business dealings of this firm. Mr. Pearce, the retiring member of the firm will probably return to his old occupation, railroad engineering on the Northern Pa cific. He has made a host of friends here who will regret his decision to leave the Grove, but who wish him well where ever he may roam.
