In ev ejy instance those w ho cam e to participate have expressed themselves as pleRsed with the city for its hospitality and the efforts o f the people here to make the con ventions a success. Kansas City, M o.,— T h e sale of special rate tickets to Portland, O re ., opened so briskly as to as tonish local railroad officials. From the number o f ttekets purchased, i- is apparent that passenger traffic to the Pacific Coast w ill be heavier than was anticipated. One o f the city ticket agent.*, in speaking of this today, said. " I t indicates that this part o f the country is exceptionally pros perous. T h is early rush for tickets is not on ly a big advertisement for the L ew is and Clark E xposition, but a big advertisement for Kansas. Current theories united with practical considerations to en courage the strongest side of a student instead of strengthening his weaker parts. Art, music, ethics, nature study acquired a place be side the sterner subjects like spell ing, mathematics, and dead lan guages. The reaction is now visible especially in New England, which has always held the general lead in education The dos education can make out a better case for girls than it can for boys. T o develops a woman all round, agreeably, artist ically and to draw out from her the natural gifts which will give her most pleasure and enable her to give most pleasure also, may be wise where for a man’s nature and function in the world u harsher pre liminary training is desirablo.
