COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL | C H A M B E R SEPTEMBER 3, 2020 | 3B N E W S L E T T E R Th e Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce promotes economic vitality through advocacy and collaboration with its members and the larger community. Shauna Neigh CEO/President Note from the director: September in Cottage Grove usually means back to school, end of summer and thoughts of fall festivities. This year has been a learning experience for us all. Everyone has been so isolated that normal activities have become tiresome. This past weekend I was downtown Cottage Grove and the streets were busy. Our ‘new’ Chamber offi ce has seen visitors from all over. Some have plotted Cottage Grove as a centralized meeting spot for friends near and far. I have heard the same story of the need to see and experience something new. A big draw has been our beautiful hiking/ biking trails and the Covered Bridges. Cottage Grove continues to get fantastic press with stories of our charming Historic District, the Bike Trail, the Covered Bridges and even the 6 th fastest time in America for the ½ marathon. I am so thankful to live in a spot where most come to get away. The greatest gift on Earth! Chamber Gift Certifi cates. Purchasing a Chamber Gift Certifi cate allows your recipient to shop from several excellent Chamber businesses to keep and spend our dollars locally. This is so important right now with many of our small businesses struggling. For more information call the Chamber offi ce (541- 942-2411) or email info@cgchamber.com. Sign up Today to be a Participating Business! The Gift Certifi cate Program is a Member Benefi t Highlight. Chamber Gift Certifi cates are available in any denomination and anyone can purchase certifi cates. As a chamber we strive to educate the community of the value of supporting our local merchants the Gift Certifi cate Program is one way we encourage shopping local. As we approach the holiday season, what better way to get a jump start on promoting your business. Shauna will be reaching out to our chamber member businesses to sign those up that would like to participate. Purpose: 1. Promote shopping at CG Chamber Member businesses. 2. Support chamber members with dollars spent in Cottage Grove. How it works: Certifi cates are purchased at the Chamber offi ce and can be used at chamber member businesses participating in the program. A list of businesses is attached to the certifi cate(s) Gift certifi cates are treated as cash when presented. Participating businesses then redeem their certifi cates by submitting them to the Chamber offi ce and will be reimbursed for those redeemed. A small handling fee of 5% of the face amount of the certifi cate but not less than $1.00 per certifi cate is taken at the time they are redeemed. Chamber Gift Certifi cate participation is not limited to retail stores. Service oriented businesses should get involved too. Each business will be able to establish restrictions (i.e. Not redeemable for prescriptions, etc.). You Can Make a Difference It can be tough to stay optimistic when we are surrounded with talk of economic crisis during this time. Perhaps our community could take a different look at what our country and the world for that matter, is experiencing and look at a simple solution that can make a world of difference for Cottage Grove. Studies have proven that small shifts in spending by consumers into local businesses equivalates to much needed revenues and jobs locally. A study was done in Kent County, Michigan where local businesses allowed their books to be monitored during a shop local campaign. At the end of the study they discovered that a 10% shift in local consumer spending had made a signifi cant impact. The redirection of spending had supported more than 1600 jobs that added 53.3 million in additional wages into the local economy and almost 140 million in additional revenue output! WOW! In plain English that means if we bring just 10% more of our spending back to Cottage Grove our small businesses can make it through these diffi cult times and our merchants can keep or even increase the amount of jobs available. The bottom line is where you spend your money counts. You can make a difference! Always “Think Local, Shop Cottage Grove!” New and Renewed commitment to the Chamber. We, at the Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce, sincerely appreciate the continuous support of our members. We look forward to an exciting year with many changes. 12: +,5,1* Welcome New Members!
