She was born in Cot- tage Grove, OR on August 22, 1925 to parents Harry and Ag- nes (Flaherty) Stoneburg and graduated from Cottage Grove High School. She married Dallas Jesse Deere on May 22, 1943 in Van- couver, WA. Th ey were mar- ried for 54 wonderful years. Betty was a homemaker who enjoyed making blue rib- bon afghans, camping at the coast with her family, sewing, and keeping a beautiful, lush yard full of fl owers and a large vegetable garden. Betty always made sure ev- eryone was taken care of and well fed. Once you had one of her homemade pies you could never love another. Her home was always full of family and fun. She loved being a grand- ma and took special care of her grandkids. When she gave up her house, she made a new home at Magnolia Gardens. She is survived by her son Monty (Cathy) Deere of Cot- tage Grove, OR, daughter Beth Ann Summers of Chan- dler, AZ, daughter-in-law Sue Deere of Cottage Grove, OR, grandchildren, Julia (Chad) Beito, Chris (Camila) Sum- mers, Jon Summers, Angie (Brian) Saunders, Jesse (Chris- ty) Deere, Amy Deere, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Dallas, sons Larry and Dennis Deere, son-in-law Bill Summers, siblings Lucille Lynch, Alice Gaither, Margaret Lemley, Verne Stoneburg, La- Verne Stoneburg and Yvonne Eller. A Funeral Service will be held February 29, 2020 at 10AM at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove, OR, followed by a graveside service at Fir Grove Cemetery. Linda Joel Nicolay, 61, of Cottage Grove, OR passed on February 18, 2020 from can- cer. She was born on October 17, 1958 in Jamestown, ND to parents Norbert and Darlene (Nitschke) Schlenker. Lin- da married Gary Nicolay on May 17, 1975 in Las Vegas, NV. She worked for Safe-lock 1945-2020 Judith “Judy” Lynne Haus- man, 74, of Eugene, died February 6, 2020. Judy was born June 18, 1945 to parents Wallace and Ann (Kauppila) Calkins in Worcester, MA. She graduated from West Covina High School in California. Judy loved to cook, camping, ATV riding, boating, and spending time with her children and grand- children. She was a member of the Dorena Grange. Judy is sur- vived by her life long partner Jay Williamson, of Eugene, OR; son Kevin (Melody) DuPay of Cottage Grove, OR; daughter Heidi Hausmann of Tacoma, WA; step daughter Kristina (Oscar) Gallegos of Creswell, OR; brother Ron (Donnie) Calkins of Upland, CA; sister Carol (Joseph) Scatamacchia of Whittier, CA; brother Bob Calkins of Covina, CA; and 12 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, a son Th omas DuPay, and broth- er Russell Calkins. A funeral was held February 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. Interment at Fir Grove Cemetery, Cottage Grove, OR. ward and San Diego, CA and at the Pacifi c Missile Range Facil- ity on the island of Kauai, HI. Known as Hop, he retired from the Navy and the Hopkinsons returned to San Diego. Th ere, Hop continued to pursue his love of gardening, which led to moving to Eu- gene, OR to earn a Master’s Degree in Landscape Archi- tecture at the University of Or- egon. Later the couple moved to Creswell and then to Cot- tage Grove. Th ey were snow- birds in Sun City West, AZ for ten years and all of Hop’s yards were especially beautiful. Hop was also an exceptionally good photographer. Hop died in his sleep at home aft er a two-year bat- tle with pancreatic cancer. A Memory Service was held for him at the Cottage Grove St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on February 23rd. Th e Navy will be spreading his ashes in the Pacifi c Ocean. Hop was a caring, talented, intelligent, wonderful man and he is sorely missed. He was born in Newburyport, MA to Charles and Evaline Hopkinson on December 10, 1936. LCDR Hopkinson was a career ASW Navy pilot. He served on the USS Enterprise as an air traffi c control offi - cer during the Vietnam War. Francis earned a business de- gree at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, where he met Patricia Doerges, whom he married on August 5, 1967. Moore, 49, of Chal- lis, ID passed away on Febru- ary 27, 2020 in Springfi eld, OR from a rare form of pancreatic cancer. Jerald was born to par- ents JL and Betty (Lovingood) Moore on July 15, 1970 in Cottage Grove, OR. He gradu- ated from Cottage Grove High School and attended Oregon State University earning an as- sociate degree in liberal arts. Jerald served in the United States Marines during Desert Storm. He worked on an Alaskan crab boat, was a timber cutter, did drilling and blasting, was a professional fur trapper, and a hunting guide. He loved rid- ing horses, wilderness packing, hunting and fi shing. His favor- ite place to be was the Frank Church Wilderness in Idaho. Jerald was a member of the NRA. Jerald is survived by his parents JL and Betty Moore; son Hunter Moore; daughter Savannah Moore; sister Lisa Moore; brothers Darrell and Chris Moore. Ecological Landscaping Living with Art Keith Joseph Fuller 1975-2020 Keith Joseph Fuller, 44, of Cottage Grove, Oregon passed away February 28, 2020 from a rare form of anaplastic thyroid cancer. He was born to Tony E. and LaVonne (Dobson) Full- er October 2, 1975 in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Keith gradu- ated from Cottage Grove High School in 1993, and then attend- ed Lane Community College and Eastern Oregon University. He was an OSHA certifi ed safe- ty manager for Belfor, a multi- national fi re, fl ood and natural disaster restoration company. Keith was an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Colville Indian Reservation. He taught many of his family tribal traditions from his mother La- Vonne Fuller and his Aunties and Uncles. Keith and Laela loved spending time outside. On the shores of the lake, on the beach, and especially in the mountains. “Th e mountains al- ways called to him” Laela would say. Keith and Laela would spend their free time traveling and camping across the state and as far as Yellowstone Na- tional Park. He loved spending time with his family and friends. An avid hunter, Keith loved tak- ing his kids, dad, brothers, cous- ins, and family friends to the hills during hunting season. He would take annual hunting trips throughout the Pacifi c North- west to hunt deer and elk and in 2017 fi lled a once in a lifetime big horn sheep tag on the Hells- gate Refuge on the Colville Res- ervation in Washington. Keith enjoyed four wheeling, driving across the state to play in the snow, mud, or sand. He was also a well-known and was a very tal- ented mechanic. He was known to have multiple mechanic proj- ects and was able to restore and rebuild various styles of vehi- cles. Keith married Laela Mc- Cready on August 22, 2015 at Clary Creek Campground out- side Mapleton, Oregon. He was survived by his wife Laela, par- ents Tony E. Fuller, father and mother in law Harry and Susan McCready of Cottage Grove, OR; son Bryce Cothran, his wife Zoey, and granddaughter Logan Grace; daughter Chloe Cothran; brother Kurtis (Cheri) Fuller of Cottage Grove, OR; brother Tony Aaron Fuller of Washington, D.C.; brother Tyler McCready and his wife Pattie of Eugene, OR; and brother Blake Fuller of Stringer, MS.
