Full forecast on A5 COMMUNITY — C Est. 1889 The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) held its second town hall Monday night to discuss youth mental health issues with a panel of nine local professionals. “We want the youth in the room to be aware of the resources that Cottage Grove has to offer and identify some of the miss- ing pieces that the Youth Advisory Coun- cil can use as our targeted goals for the rest of the year,” said YAC Chair MJ Raade, a junior at Cottage Grove High School. YAC, a youth group conducted in part- nership with the city which serves as a lo- cal communication link between the city council and young people in the commu- nity, attracted an audience of about a doz- en youths and other interested parties to City Hall. Professionals in select fields took near- ly two hours to answer questions from youths on a variety of mental health topics such as barriers to receiving help, social stigmas and local resources. The story is the third in Holbrook’s fantastical series of tales in a medieval animal kingdom. Box 35, Cottage Grove, OR 97424 From Buster Keaton’s “The General” to the 1973 movie “Emperor of the North” to the hit classic “Animal House,” Cottage Grove prides itself as having a special footnote in the annals of film history. This year, the city will add another title to its resume with the up- coming mini-series “The Fair- field Boys.” “It’s something to get ex- cited about because there’s Quality Cleaning Certifi ed Green Carpet Cleaning Specialist 541-942-0420 already such a rich history of film here,” said director Peter Wickliffe. Set in the backwoods of the 1850s old west, the mini-series begins with two outlaw broth- ers hunted by a bounty hunt- er. Following a shootout, two runaways stumble upon one of the survivors of the skirmish. In nursing the stranger back to health, the lives of the brothers and runaways intertwine. Filmed entirely against the Oregon landscape, the mini-series will tell the tale in five episodes total. “It’s spurred from the ideas of films like ‘Lonesome Dove’ and ‘Comanche Moon,’” said Wickliffe, adding that the vi- sual style is inspired by “The Revenant.” As writer, producer, direc- tor and actor, Wickliffe has made the project his singular focus and is optimistic his pas- sion for the craft will magne- tize others to the project. “Once you get it going, you just have to maintain the See SERIES 6A Superintendent search narrows to two candidates By Damien Sherwood dsherwood@cgsentinel.com The South Lane School District (SLSD) board of directors has announced its two fi nalists, Andy Dey and Yvonne Curtis, for consideration in the search for the dis- trict’s next superintendent.
