Bingo night is on the first Mon- day of each month unless there is a holiday. Bingo is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Sunnydale Grange Hall located about five miles west of Drain on Highway 38. Traditional and special games with special cash prizes are included in the base bingo pack for $8, Swing gang which includes a final spe- cial game prize of $25. Net proceeds from the bingo night fund a schol- arship for a graduating senior from both Yoncalla and Drain high schools. Daubers and refresh- ments are available, and the Grange is wheelchair accessible. The first bingo night will be Monday, Oct. 7. For more information call 541-942-4732. ‘Rosie the Riveters’ to meet Friday in Springfield The American Rosie the Riveter Association, also known as the “Ros- ies,” will have a chapter meeting this Friday, Sept. 13, at Willamalane Adult Activity Center in Spring- field, 215 W. C St. The association is made up of women who served during World War II, when the nation needed them to fill jobs for the men who were at war. The American Rosie the Riveter Association seeks to recognize and preserve the history and legacy of World War II era working women, including volun- teer women, and promote fellowship among these women and their descen- dants. Write a Letter to the Editor. nhickson@CGSentinel.com DAMIEN SHERWOOD/COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL W ith the anchoring of the eastern column of the Swinging Bridge on Sept. 9, construction on the project is about two to three weeks ahead of schedule. “It’s a very satisfying to see it go up because it’s been about a three-year journey,” said Friends of the Swinging Bridge member Dana Merryday. “The community’s stood behind it all the way.” While the project was initially scheduled to be completed by Nov. 4, it is hoped the speedy construction rate will see a sooner completion date. However, a new date has yet to be set. Science Pub to explore Oregon’s ancient forests “Exploring Oregon’s An- cient Forests” will be the topic of the September Sci- ence Pub, which will take place Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Axe & Fiddle, 657 E. Main St. Chandra LeGue, author and Western Oregon Field Coordinator for Oregon Wild, will discuss her re- cently published book $IBOHFB$IJMEhT 4UPSZ¥ CFDPNFBOBEWPDBUF “Oregon’s Ancient Forests: A Hiking Guide.” This talk will illustrate the fun- damentals of our ancient forests, highlight a variety of hiking experiences and feature trails in and around the Coast Fork Willamette Watershed. The Coast Fork Willa- mette Watershed Council (CFWWC) hosts a fami- ly-friendly monthly public meeting series called the Coast Fork Science Pub on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Axe & Fiddle in Cottage Grove. The event begins with informal socializing, triv- ia and updates about the watershed and watershed council during the first hour. The Science Pub pre- sentation begins at 6 p.m. CFWWC receives 10 per- cent of all sales from the evening between 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event is free to the public, with a $5 donation suggested.
