DAMIEN SHERWOOD/COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL Katherine Wilson (center), author of the new book “Echoes from the Set,” stopped by Cottage Grove for a book signing last Friday, May 24, at The Bookmine. Wilson’s memoir reflects on 50 years in the movie business and experiences with big names in the industry, such as Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas and Rob Reiner. The book chronicles work on some of Oregon’s most famous movies, includ- ing “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Animal House” and “Stand By Me.” BMD Festival announces auditions for 2019 play Bohemia City Players Director and Playwright Jennifer Mandeville-Schulz invites actors to audition for the festival’s theme play, “Opal: Unpolished Gem,” a historical play spotlight- ing one of Cottage Grove’s most famous authors, Opal Whiteley. Auditions will be Satur- day, June 1, at noon at the Cottage Grove Communi- ty Center, 700 E Gibbs Ave. Performances will be on the festival’s Heritage Stage in Coiner Park, July 18-20. The play is set in Cottage Grove at the turn of the 20th century. Auditions will be for five children (ages 6-13) who Special Deal! will have multiple roles, five women and three men. No prior acting experi- ence required. Rehearsals will be Sun- day, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, in ad- dition to set and prop con- struction parties. To promote the play, the cast is invited to partici- pate in the Creswell 4th of July Parade and the BMD Grand Miners Parade on Saturday morning, July 20.
