COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL • FEBRUARY 6, 2019 • 9A CHAMBER NEWSLETTER Our Mission: Th e Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce promotes economic vitality through advocacy and collaboration with its members and the larger community. Cycle Oregon has just announced that they will return to the Cottage Grove area for this year’s Classic. Approximately 2,500 riders, support staff and Travis Palmer, volunteers will Executive Director descend upon the Schwarz Park campground for an overnight pit stop during their week long tour around some of the most beautiful bicycle riding areas in the country. Th e Chamber will coordinate the many local volunteer groups who can earn a few dollars for their cause in exchange for some time and a little sweat. Local businesses don’t have to wait until September to take advantage of the opportunities that Cycle Oregon brings. In the next several months, we will see an increase of visitors to town who are here for training and practice rides to get ready for the big event. Help us welcome these visitors and give them the best experience you can possibly provide. Cyclists are a demographic that has both time and disposable income and their economic impact on local businesses is quite profound. Th e common misconception about these events is that the economic impact all happens on the day of the event but the truth is quite the opposite. During the event, riders are busy just trying to make it to the next stage. Th e impact is in our ability to catch their attention while they are here so that they want to come back, stay overnight and bring their friends and family along with them. Get creative with how your business can catch their attention and welcome these guests to our community. It will pay off in the long run. Th ere are two other announcements that I’d like to make although details are still in the early stages: February Business aft er Hours - Hosted this month by Banner Bank.
