COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL • JANUARY 9, 2019 • 3A Join Coast Fork Birders for Library pairs with science center for alien research annual Bald Eagle count All levels of bird enthu- siasts are welcome to meet at the Koff ee Kup restau- rant at 9 a.m. this Saturday, Jan. 12, to check in for the Dorena Reservoir count. Arrive earlier if you would like to have break- fast beforehand. Partici- pants will depart the Koff ee Kup shortly aft er 9 a.m. in order to be birding in the fi eld by 9:30 a.m. Th e Cottage Grove Res- ervoir count will take place in the aft ernoon. Meet at 2 p.m. at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (US- ACE) Lakeside Park on London Road to check in. Bring birding gear, weather appropriate cloth- ing and your own snacks and water. Th is count will contrib- ute citizen science data on juvenile and adult bald ea- gles (and other birds that winter in the area) around Dorena Reservoir and Cot- tage Grove Reservoir to the Oregon Eagle Foundation's statewide midwinter eagle count. Th is will be the 26th an- nual count. South Lane Wheels makes changes to local services To provide quicker, more effi cient service, LTD in conjunction with South Lane Wheels, is launching the LTD Connector. Th is new pilot program will go live on Monday, Jan. 14, and will replace the Route Around Town with a more streamlined, RideShare service. For more information on this innovative, new pro- gram, visit www.ltd.org/ system-map/route_MOD/ All other South Lane Wheels services will re- main in full operation such as: • Local Door-To-Door — Th is is South Lane Wheel’s reservation-based service which operates from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every weekday. Schedule this service by calling SLW dis-patch at 541-942-0456 ext. 1 to schedule any trip within a 10-mile distance. Fares for Local Demand range from $3 to $10 one- way, based on trip distance. • Metro Shuttle — Th is is South Lane Wheel’s reser- vation-based service which also operates between 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on week- days. For Cottage Grove res- idents, service is $15 one way or $30 for a round trip. For Creswell residents traveling to Cottage Grove or going to Eugene/Spring- fi eld; service is $10 one- way, or $20 for a round trip. SLW is a provider of public transportation, all services are open to the ev- eryone. Two versions of the Discover Exoplanets will be on display at the Cottage Grove Public Library beginning Jan. 30. Discover Exoplanets: Th e Search for Alien Worlds is a national travel- ing exhibition exploring the fascinat- ing world of space and astronomy. Discover Exoplanets covers top- ics such as the search for habitable worlds beyond our Solar System, how NASA scientists are searching for these worlds, and how they may be like our own. Two diff erent versions of the ex- hibit will be on display at the Cottage Grove Public Library and the Eugene Science Center from Jan. 30 to April 20. Getting people interested in sci- ence can be a challenge, but Discov- er Exoplanets strives to make it fun with hands-on, multimedia activities where visitors can build their own solar sys-tems, see the most recent NASA discoveries, and learn about whether popular TV and movies feature “Science Fact or Science Fic- tion.” SWITCH TO THE Aut o CONVENIENCE OF AUTO PAY!
