Dec. 30 • A male transient was re- ported as having spread out all his possessions on the sidewalk and had his radio blaring. • A profane word directed at the Cottage Grove Police Department was reported as being spray painted un- der the Chambers Bridge. Jan. 3 • Suspicious subjects re- ported for second night hid- ing in the bushes on Eighth Street. Jan. 1 • Two male subjects were reported working on an un- known machine in the inter- section of 10th and Cooper. When complainant stepped out to look, the men left the Jan. 6 Jan. 7 • Woman complained that music coming from the house behind hers is so loud it was giving her a headache. Police reported the music “could be heard from the street but is in no way un- reasonable.” • A woman was reported hiding in the bushes on S. 8th Street. • Unlawful camping re- ported at Trailhead Park. • A man was reported walking up and down sev- eral driveways in the area • A man walking his girl- friend home when a woman kept driving by, stopping and trying to beat them up. Johnny Loyd Wheeler 1945-2018 Johnny Loyd Wheeler, 73, of Creswell, Oregon, passed away peacefully with family by his side at his sister and broth- er-in-laws home in Creswell, Wednesday, December 26, 2018. Johnny was born on August 24, 1945 in Cottage Grove, Oregon, to Ernest and Henrietta Wheeler who preceded him in death. Johnny married LaVerne Larson April 14, 1967, who pre- ceded him in death on October 30, 2006. Johnny was a proud Veteran serving in the US Air Force from 1963 to 1967. Upon leaving the Air Force he worked for Weyerhaeuser in Cottage Grove as a Log Truck Driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed spending his retirement in Eastern Oregon and Coos Bay, Oregon. He loved telling stories and was very good at it. He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Thayer and brother- in-law, Darrell Thayer, of Creswell and brother, Larry Wheel- er, and sister-in-law, Diana Wheeler, of Bend, 3 nieces and 1 nephew and was preceded in death by 1 niece and 1 nephew. There will be a private family inurnment. Thelma Vera Harris (Lois) 1930-2018 Thelma Vera Harris (Lois) of Cottage Grove passed away December 25, 2018. Thelma was born August 1, 1930 in Portland, Oregon to John and Thelma Stout (Williams). Thelma graduated from Cottage Grove High School and on August 24, 1951 she married Marvyn Harris. Thelma was a homemaker, avid reader and enjoyed sewing, crating and bowling. Thelma was active in the Hebron Grange and the Moose Lodge. Thelma is survived by her daughters; Sandra Harris, Debra Dwyer, and Nancy Huffman all of Cottage Grove; her son; Tim Harris of Cottage Grove; 10 great grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Marvyn Harris and her son Leonard Harris. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 26, 2019 at 1:00PM at the Delight Valley Church of Christ. Gertrude Alice Shepherd 1919-2018 Gertrude Alice Shepherd was born June 8, 1919 and passed away December 19, 2018. She was born in Claremont, South Dakota to Frank and Roseanna Vickers and had 7 sib- lings. Husband, Virgil Shepherd preceded her in death. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, LaVonne Wicks and her husband Tom of Roseburg; grandson Trace Wicks & Lee Krause of Bend and granddaughter, Christa Wicks-Mor- ris & husband Joel, also of Bend; great granddaughters, Erin and husband, Garrett, Emilee, Alison, Katie, Elizabeth, Kaitlin, great grandson, Jacob and one great-great granddaughter, Luca Grace Jolly. Gertrude is also survived by sister, Shirley Fether- huff of Aberdeen, South Dakota; brother-in-law, Ike Shepherd of Cottage Grove and sister-in-law, Margie Adkins of Redding, California and numerous nephews and nieces. After leaving South Dakota in 1945, they moved to Oregon and settled in the Disston area. After living several years in the Cottage Grove area, they moved to the McKenzie River Val- ley where they worked at the Leaburg Fish Hatchery and then later managed the Wayfarer Resort on the McKenzie. In later life, Gertie lived at Magnolia Gardens in Cottage Grove and the Magnolia Gardens Memory Care where she passed away. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, poetry, bowling, playing cards with friends and spending time with family. Willie was born September 3, 1926 in Hanna, Oklahoma to Williams and Ada (Hayes) Choat. Willie graduated from High School in Bakersfi eld, CA. In 1944 Willie joined the Military and served in the US Army and the US Air Force. Wil- lie was awarded the WWll Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacifi c Cam- paign Metal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal. He married Luella Kinkade on March 1, 1947 in Las Vegas, NV. Willie worked as a Service Manager in the auto industry and enjoyed time with his family along with hunting and fi shing. Willie was also a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Willie is survived by his son, Nick (Cindy) Choat, Halsey, OR; daughters Rickie (Jerry) Monroe, Mill City, OR and Vickie (Glen) Dufur, Kent, WA; sister, Alice Dupzyk, Sacramento, CA; 8 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren. John David Andrews August 11, 1950-December 22, 2018 John David Andrews died of natural causes in his home with his dog, Rusty, by his side. He was born on his father’s birthday to John Pershing Andre ws and Carol (Houck) Andrews -Wallan in Bend, OR and was the second of fi ve children. John graduated from Redmond Union High School in the class of 1968. He was active in student government, key club, chess club and wrestling. He attended the University of Portland and graduated from Portland State University in business and accounting. He was a CPA in Cottage Grove, OR until he retired in 2016. In addition to reading, fi shing, hunting and gardening, John hiked the Pacifi c Crest Trail from California to Washington. He loved his dogs and was rarely without a canine companion. Aft er retirement he developed culinary interests, creating and sharing his recipes. John was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother and by his fi ve children; Marilyn Andrews, Portland OR; John Andrews, Eugene OR; Emily Andrews, Portland, OR; Jim Andrews, Tangent OR; Scott Andrews, Mt. Angel, OR; fi rst wife, Patty Will Andrews, mother of his children; second wife, Jacque Robertson and her son Nate; and fi ve grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Carol Andrews Randall (Rick); Mary Patricia Andrews Fisher (John); Leslie Andrews Weigand (Craig); Joseph Andrews (Sonya) and many nieces and nephews.
