COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL AUGUST 23, 2017 7B PUBLIC NOTICES NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF BALLOT TITLE Notice is hereby given that a ballot title for a measure has been fi led with the Lane County Clerk on August 18, 2017 for inclusion in the November 7, 2017 Special Election. The ballot title caption is: Renewal of current fi ve-year local option tax for general operations. An elector may fi le a petition for review of the ballot title in the Lane County Circuit Court no later than 5:00 p.m., August 29, 2017. NOTICE OF DISTRICT MEASURE ELECTION Notice is hereby given on August 18, 2017 that a measure election will be held in the South Lane Fire & Rescue District located in Lane County, Oregon, on November 7, 2017. The following shall be the ballot title of the measure to be submitted to the district’s voters: Caption: Renewal of current fi ve-year local option tax for general operations. Question: Shall the District impose $0.47 per $1,000 of assessed value for general operations for fi ve-years beginning fi scal year 2018-2019? This measure renews current local option taxes. Summary: South Lane County Fire and Rescue seeks to renew the 2012 Operations and Staffi ng Levy for the purpose of continuing to provide 24/7 paramedic ambulance services from our staffed stations in Cottage Grove and Creswell. If renewed, the levy will allow the District to continue providing its current level of service from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2023. In addition, the continued presence of 24/7 365 staffi ng assists in maintaining the District’s ISO Rating of 2/4/10W, which was achieved following voter approved establishment of the levy in 2012. Without the additional tax revenue generated by the levy, the District will be forced to reduce existing staffi ng levels and cut service, negatively impacting the District’s service area and ISO rating. Specifi cally, the District would reduce or eliminate its paramedic level ambulance service due to the elimination of up to nine (9) fi refi ghter/paramedic positions District wide. The proposed renewal of the $0.47 per $1,000 of assessed value is estimated to raise approximately $955,749 in 2018-2019, $984,421 in 2019-2020, $1,013,954 in 2020-2021, $1,044,373 in 2021-2022, and $1,075,704 in 2022- 2023. The estimated tax cost for this measure is an ESTIMATE ONLY based on the best information available from the county assessor at the time of estimate and may refl ect the impact of early payment discounts, compression and the collection rate. ________________________________ AUCTION: September 9, 2017 PROMPTLY at 11:00 A.M. AS DEFINED, THE LENDER WILL REQUIRE IMMEDIATE PAYMENT IN FULL OF ALL OUTSTANDING If public notices aren’t in the newspaper, how will the public notice? Zoning changes. Tax increases. Legislative proposals. These are just a few ways government actions can affect your life and community. 80% of all Oregon adults read a newspaper at least once during an average week, and 54% read public notices printed there.* But federal, state, and local government agencies erroneously believe they can save money by putting public notices on their web sites instead. If that hap- pens, how will public notices be ... well, noticed? Less than 10% of the U.S. popu- lation currently visits a government web site daily.** You should not have to know where, when, and how to look, or what to look for, in order to be informed. It is the government’s responsibility to deliver notice to the public. Take notice. Your right to know is being served right here: in your newspaper. * American Opinion Research, Princeton NJ, September 2010. ** U.S. Census Bureau, May 2009.
