2B COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL July 27, 2016 SPEEDWAY CONTINUED FROM PG 1B Winebarger, doing double duty, was fast time of the evening and also won the Dot’s Trophy Shop Trophy Dash. Heat races were won by Da- vid Schmidt and Paul Culp. Last but not least was the Street Stocks. Evan Britton of Cottage Grove was the car to beat for the lon- gest time but was passed on the 11th lap by Andrew Langan. Langan, out of Jasper and driving for car owner Kevin Williamson, held off the com- petition the rest of the way to win his fi rst race at Cottage Grove this year. Evan Britton fi nished second while third went to Eugene’s Chris Sine. Talyn Roberts, of Gresham, was fourth and Cottage Grove’s Bo Eastman completed the top fi ve. Tom Yeack, from Crawfordsville, was quick time and Evan Britton won the Dot’s Trophy Shop Trophy Dash. Heat race winners were Yeack and Chris Sine. The second and fi nal night of the 2016 Mark Howard Memorial CGS Modifi ed Nationals was underway on Saturday. As was the fi rst night the Late Models, along with the Northwest Extreme Late Model Se- ries, was the support class. How- ever, the Street Stocks had the night off and in their stead was the Clark MANAMA SPORTING GOODS 1055 Bailey Hill Rd, Suite B, Eugene 541-357-4419 mazamasportinggoods.com COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL 116 N 6th St. Cottage Grove 541-942-3325 Printing Extreme Sprints. In the 52-lap feature for the IMCA Modifi eds, Craig Hanson obtained the lead on the opening lap. The Albany veteran remained there for quite some time. Collen Winebarg- er, of Corbett, fi nally found a way around him on lap 16. At lap 25, the red fl ag was thrown to refuel the cars to fi nish the rest of the distance. On the restart, for the second half of the race, Winebarger was the lead- er, followed by Mark Carrell in sec- ond and Craig Hanson running third. Lap 31 saw another lead change but this time with Carrell making the pass around Winebarger. Carrell, of Redmond, set a wicked pace but a caution with fi ve laps to go would bunch everyone up one last time. On the ensuing restart, Carrell kept all challengers in check and held on to win his fi rst career Mark Howard Memorial CGS Modifi ed Nationals. Winebarger was a respectable second followed by 24th-starting Nick Trenchard, of Klamath Falls, in third. The rest of the top fi ve would be made up of Eugene’s Jesse Wil- liamson, in fourth, and Craig Han- son. The top 10 drivers in overall points from the fi rst night were locked in the A Main and the rest of the drivers had to try and qualify via the heat races. Medford’s Mark Wauge, Kreg Brit- ton from Cottage Grove, and Dustin Cady of Albany were the winners. Craig Hanson won the scramble to earn the pole starting position of the feature, and the B-Main was won by Derrick Young of Hines. In the Late Models, Jason John- son got to the front on lap one. The Gresham driver only held down the position for just a single lap. Jesse Williamson, out of Eugene, made a swift move around Johnson on the second lap. The only thing to slow Williamson down were three cau- tions which kept the fi eld close. But on each restart, Williamson retained the top spot. Williamson went on to win the race for his fi rst Late Model win at CGS this year and his third overall. Ron Brewster, of Redmond, was the runner-up, while Lebanon’s Josh Sim got third. David Schmidt, from Eugene, ended his night fourth, and Jason Johnson got fi fth. Jesse Williamson was fast time of the night in time trials while Eugene veteran Chuck Christian won the Dot’s Trophy Shop Trophy Dash. Williamson and Salem’s Britton Do- nahoo were the two heat race win- ners. In the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, it was all about Camden Ro- bustelli. Robustelli, from Medford, was on rails for the feature. Utiliz- ing the bottom of the track, he was at one time half a lap ahead of second place. The southern Oregon young- ster would hit some heavy lapped traffi c but with the luxury of such a large interval over the rest of the fi eld, and no cautions coming out, he went unchallenged. It was Robust- elli’s fi rst win of the season and sec- ond of his career at “The Grove”. Cottage Grove’s Patrick Dills placed second and Ricky Ashley, of Thurston, was behind him in third at the line. Raquel Ivie, from Eugene, crossed the wire in fourth while Har- risburg teenager Tyler Thompson fi nished in fi fth. Patrick Dills was fast time of the night and Raquel Ivie was the win- ner of the Dot’s Trophy Shop Tro- phy Dash. Heat race winners were Roseburg’s Dusty Redmond and Ricky Ashley.
