Max has taken these three young men under his wing and is teaching them valuable social skill lessons. The boys had su- pervision on their President’s Day by our highly skilled tem- porary EA Rosalie Juhl. The boys did art, ate lunch, read books and talked about the things most important to them. Buddies Bohemia teachers and stu- dents are embracing the idea of buddies. Our teachers pair up primary and intermediate classrooms to complete reading, technology, art, nutrition and P.E. lessons. Students love it! Spirit Week Staff and students partici- pated in Spirit Week during the week of February 8-12. Dress up days included Fan Day, Pa- jama Day, Wildcat Day, Crazy Hair Day and Rainbow Day. Kindness Week February 16-19 was kindness week at Bohemia. Staff and stu- dents planned acts of kindness for those around them and stu- dents focused on acts of kind- ness throughout their day. As a reward, students earned “warm and fuzzies”, little fuzzy pom- poms to fi ll their classroom jar. Penny Drive During Spirit Week, students brought in coins as a way to fundraise for fi eld trips at Bo- hemia. Each penny counted as a positive point and each silver coin contributed to the sabotage as negative points. The winning grade level was Kindergarten for the 2nd year in a row. Bo- hemia elementary brought in nearly $1000.00. Verizon Supply Boxes We are so proud of our Bohe- mia Elementary School teach- ers, Mrs. Olsen, Mrs. Strickland, Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Hankins, who won Verizon School Sup- ply Boxes. Join Dorena School in doing the most we can for the health of our kids. March is Nutritional Aware- ness Month Students at Dorena continue to work on the year’s nutrition and fi tness. Since this month is nutritional awareness month, we are focusing on food awareness at lunch. Our cafeteria manager has displayed informational posters and is engaging students in discussion about nutrition. Our Harvest of the Month sam- pling will be on March 17; stu- dents will be sampling Oregon cabbage in a yummy coleslaw. In February, students were in- troduced to the Oregon pear and Shrek Smoothies, a combina- tion of spinach, kale, and fruits. Students loved the smoothies. Eighth Grade Parent Night at CGHS Cottage Grove High School will host the Eighth Grade Par- ent Night on Tuesday, April 12th at 6:30 p.m. Elective teachers will be available beforehand to showcase their programs. The eighth graders will also visit the high school on April 8th. We will meet in the cafetorium for introductions by our Princi- pal, Iton Udosenata. Following this, parents/students will go to breakout sessions (assigned classrooms) to hear more about electives, complete registra- tion forms and have questions answered. This evening will give you an opportunity to learn more about curriculum choices, hear about the Link Crew Ori- entation Program, meet admin- istrators and explore opportu- nities that the high school can provide for your student. You will be registering your students for elective choices so it is criti- cal to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Vicki Evans, CGHS Counselor 942-3391 ext. 134. March is Music in our Schools Month! Dorena School is excited to announce that, next year, we will be adding an additional day of music to our schedules! Currently, every grade level at Dorena receives 30 minutes of music enrichment per week, and some are able to partici- pate in an additional 30 minute FAD enrichment class on most Fridays. We have an upcom- ing performance in April and a school-wide performance at The Beat Goes On is planned for June 3rd. Dental health instruction keeps kids smiling! First and second grade students were treated with a visit from Terra Hoy, dental health educator, and her assistants. They created fun, interactive stations for students to visit and learn about how to take care of their teeth in a way that will help them last a life- time. Our students had a great time learning how to keep their “pearly whites” strong! Fifth grade teachers and high school counselors team up for a fun night of Bingo to support Outdoor School! Everyone en- joyed a great dinner and night of games, and funds were raised to support our fi fth grade Outdoor School program. Each year the fi fth grade class must raise ap- proximately $12,000 to provide this 4-day experience of learn- ing away from campus. We are looking forward to the lifetime memories we will be making this year! Dorena Students pay tribute to Dr. Seuss. Kindergartners Celebrate the 100th Day of School! The Middle School Thinks Dorena is For the Birds! Thanks to Peggy and Bruce Cameron, the middle school is enhancing the school garden areas by adding bird houses. Bruce and Peggy Cameron pro- vided the materials, and stu- dent built and painted the bird houses. They are, now, working with our custodian Barb Rohr to display them throughout the garden and play areas.
