A press release from South Lane County Fire and Rescue indicated that the agency responded to a structure fi re at 785 Barber Drive in Creswell just before 7:30 p.m. Initial reports had indicated that the home was occupied and that the fi re was contained to a bedroom. First arriving crews found the home fi lled with smoke and fi re coming from a rear bedroom. Seven fi re/EMS apparatus responded to the fi re, which caused heavy smoke damage throughout the home and exten- sive damage to the bedroom where the fi re started. South Lane was assisted by the Goshen Fire District and the Lane County Sheriff’s Offi ce. occupants. On Monday, Greg Yoss of Big Picture Construction said that workers are continuing electri- cal, insulation and drywall work on the barn. Yoss said the hope is to have the barn restoration completed by March of 2016. Stewart had originally planned to spend four to six months and about $100,000 restoring the barn, but structural shortcom- ings and a desire for more in- depth construction plans from the City of Cottage Grove pushed the timeline back and cost fi gures much higher. The barn has hosted events since the 1950s but had seen little use since the Square Dance Club stopped using the building due to the deterioration of its fl oor. “If somebody else had pur- chased it and gone through what we went through, if they’d real- ized they were going to have to produce an extra $75,000 or so, it could have been quite a hard- ship,” Stewart said.
