COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL October 14, 2015 5A Cottage Grove Retrospective A look back at Sentinel stories from 30 and 60 years ago Oct. 9, 1975: New Candy Stripers Oct. 11, 1945: Cottage Grove eligible for a Federal P.O. building Cottage Grove along with three other municipalities in this section is eligible for a federal post offi ce building, according to press reports released Friday. Recommendations have been made that these municipalities share in a $775,000,000 fund sponsored by the federal works agency and the post offi ce de- partment. Under the trentative building plan the sum of $85,000 would be appropriated for the build- ing and site here. Reedsport and Junction City would also get an $85,000 project while Spring- fi eld would get a $95,000 build- ing. Cottage Grove has been working on a federal building Six girls have completed their study to become Candy Stripers at Cottage Grove Hospital. The girls, under the direction of Barbara Oberle, registered nurse at the hospital, are ready to begin work, and a celebration for them was held Tuesday afternoon at the hospital. POLICE BLOTTER Oct. 5 Animal Info, N River Rd Police received a report of a dead deer in the greenway on the south side of the road some- time over the weekend. The report came from an unknown citizen. It was also reported that the deer has been shot and is missing a hind quarter. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife have been contacted and are in- vestigating the matter. Follow Up, Kenady LN A man called to advise that he observed a vehicle matching the description of a listed vehicle in Cottage Grove Police Department 24-Hour Anonymous Tip Line: 767-0504 a stolen vehicle case parked on a gravel road adjacent to his drive- way on Saturday. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time, and the caller further reported that he saw the post for the missing subject on Facebook on Sunday, returned to the location and both vehicles were gone. Oct. 6 Suspicious Conditions, S 10th St. Three people advised police that they received a phone call from the house sitter of their residence saying that someone had kicked his way into the resi- dence and didn’t know if he was still there. No description was given. The caller advised police that her husband was en route to the address to confront the subject(s). Juvenile Problem, Mosby Creek Rd A report advised of a 15 year- old foster son was attempting to jump in front of passing vehi- cles. The caller was transferred to Lane County Sheriff’s offi ce. Oct. 7 A report came into the station of a bike being stolen from the location around rougly 3:45. The bike is described as a 20 inch Bur Redline BMX, esti- mated value of $269. Oct. 8 Attempt to Elude, S 7th St. An offi cer was attempting to overtake a vehicle that failed to yield, the vehicle ran a stop sign. The fi rst piece of equipment replaced was a 2007 Elgin Eagle street sweeper, which was replaced with a 2015 Schwarze Ava- lanche street sweeper. A new 2015 John Deere 4052M tractor replaces both a Case skid steer and a 1999 John Deere trac- tor located at Middlefi eld Golf Course. This tractor will be used to load material and also pull gang mowers when neces- sary. The third piece of equip- ment replaced was a 1994 John Deere tractor-mounted Tiger mower, replaced by a 2005 John Deere tractor-mounted Tiger mower purchased from Lane MULTI-FAMILY GARAGE SALE 32799 W. Playground maintenance technician training The City of Cottage Grove took delivery of a new street sweeper and tractor last week. County. The Elgin street sweeper was used as a trade-in against the purchase price of the new Schwarze street sweeper. Specifi c topics included playground in- spections and liability, record keeping and documentation, loose fi ll and unitary surfacing, concrete footers and wooden structures on playgrounds, plas- tic degradation and metal cor- rosion and fasteners and con- nectors.
