Itw T U n> v V) Quite frequently she simply decides i ^ v H E R E A R E so many societies with high sounding names whose V, J energy seems to be speut in the annual election of officers and a few semi-social sessions, that it is a wholesome pleasure to come in contact with one having a well-defined mission and one securing re sults along the line o f its endeavor. Such an organization is The Oregon Social Hygiene Society, and its mission is the rearing of healthy men and women and the stamping out of immorality and venereal disease. A worthier object than that there is not. N o one can read any one of the many free pamphlets distributed by this society without securing information of inestimable value. No one can attend one o f the lectures given under the auspices of this so ciety without the same result. N o father should allow his boy to pass through the period of self consciouuess without giving him the information contained in pamph lets issued for this situation by the society. N o mother should allow her daughter to reach the age of puberty ignorant of the vital information the pamphlets contain that may save many a girl a life of misery. Other pamphlets contain surprising information for parents, pres ent and prospective. W e make the following brief quotations to indicate the value of study of the complete pamphlets from which these quotations are made: Self-control is a mark of manliness and not of effemi nacy. Abstineuce from impurity develops strength and courage. A boy should take uo liberties with any girl that he would not have another boy take with his own sister, and a boy that would even suggest to a girl any step that he knew might later lead to her downfall, while bis reputation remained unhurt, is a base coward. As a proposition o f fair play, demand of yourself the same standard of purity you expect in your sister and girl friends. When a girl accepts a man's courtship with marriage in view, she usually knows something about his social, financial and business standing. She also has a right to know his physical condition, especially as regards his sexual health. A girl contemplating marriage should requite that her intended husband present satisfactory evidence o f freedom from venereal disease. She may have unbounded faith in his good character, and be may ap pear an ideal man, but neither o f these is a guaranty that he is free from infection. She had far better remain single than marry a man who may convey his disease to that she doesn’ t care enough about him her and to her children, with all the suffering that attends to let his actions bother her. it. Many such marriages as this end in the divorce couits; but because of the shame the reason is Seldom God intends man and woman to wed, made public. and sometimes the devil seems to co What a child inherits by birth determines whether it operate. will be easy for him to live right or wrong. PROFITING BY OTHERS’ DILIGENCE. i ^ \ H E R E A R E in any community many seemingly content to profit and get pleasure from the diligence o f others. Usually this is because of thoughtlessness or negligence, but such action is, because of that, little less deserving o f criticism. Commercial clubs and civic bodies of every kind are shining e x amples of the fe 7 doing for the many. It isn’t right or just but it will probably be thus until the end of time or a little longer. A short time ago a rod and gun club was organized in Cottage Grove. Already a carload o f trout fry has been received here because o f the activities of this organization and because of the protection to fish and game such a body promises. A second car is expected this fall, making three carloads planted in the Cottage Grove streams this year. There are probably some couple hundred or more who derive a certain amount of pleasure from angling for the gamy beauties which inhabit the Grove streams, yet the membership of the rod and gun club is only some thirty, and some of these are men who do not whip a stream once a year. The difference between the number o f disciples there are o f Izaak Walton and the number o f members there are of the rod and gun club, is too large. A ll "g o o d ” sports will pingle up the necessary simoleon and become members. DRIFTED SNOW FLOUR will help you to bake the most delicious pastry you ever tasted T h e flour is wholesome— it's clean audit's right. The most successful cooks use Drifted Snow because their ex|ierience has taught them the lesson. Order it from y o u r grocer and see how good it makes your pastry or bread.
