About Semi-weekly herald. (Coquille, Coos County, Or.) 1904-1905 | View Entire Issue (Feb. 10, 1905)
There appears to be quite a strong many portions of Ore gon in favor of omitting the state fair this year. The Linn County Council, Patrons of Husbandry has asked the legislative delegation from that county to vote against the usual appropriation for tbe fair for this year. The sentiment in favor of omitting the state fair this year appears to be strongest in those counties wbioh usually make finest exhibits at the state fair and results from the desire of the public-spirit ed citizens of such counties to con centrate all forces in efforts to give their counties the best possible showing at tbe Lewis and Clark Exposition. In this counection it is opportune to call attention to the fact that the Angora breeders of Oregon are formally asking tbe American Angora Goat Breeders Association to omit bolding its an nual show at Kansas City in favor of the Angora show ut the Lewis and {Clark Exposition. — Oregon Agriculturist. Young man, you love your moth- or and you take occasion to show your love for her in a way that she will understand, but your father, my boy, do you love and honor him as you should, and if so, do you show it in your manners that you do? Deep down below the crust ofoourse you honor your father, but not un til you are the father of a boy your self, will you evor know how much you hurt your father’s feelings by disregarding his advioe, or showing by your manners that you regard “ the old man” as kind of a back number. Just as certain as you live there will come a day when you will remember your unfilial attitude toward your dad and be sorry for it, but then it will be too late; father may then be Bleeping in bis grave, and you will have a life-long re gret, and tbe keenest remorse you may ever know will probably be the memory of the ill treatment or lack of respect for your father. When the thought of the present days shall come to you, you will re member that you often showed your mother the affection you felt for her, but denied it to your father. Re member that your mother’s way6 are not your father’s ways Your father has had to fight the world for your bread and butter, and the world has taught him to conceal his feelings. He loves you just as much as your mother docs, only be does no show it in the same manner, yet under his vest he yearns for your filial smile, aud when you do anything for which you should be commended nobody on earth is more proud of you than your father. Of course you think father is not in every respect up to date, and (hat he has not kopt up with the procession, and thnt sometimes he is unuecoasarily firm and arbitrary. All that may be truo, but the chances nre father knows more about the world at large than you do say at 30 years, a fact you will realize later on. Even if you live a long time in this world, my boy, you will always be obliged to ad mit that the safest and sanest advis er you ever had was yonr father. Honor the man yon favor, and remember that to have succees in this life you muBt cultivate good behavior, for manners and polite ness will take you farther on in life than your money. To have the good will of everybody you must be kind to all. A F riend to C h ild ren .
