On Wednesday afternoon about 5 o ’clock, Earnest Ploeger, of Marshfield, who was in this city temporiiy for a week or so, was out walking with a couple of young lady friends, the Misses Georgina Hayes and Stella Couger, and while on the long bridge on Moulton street he was handling a 22 rifle which he was carrying in a rather earless manner when the young ladies cautioned him, and he to illustrate that the gun wasentirly of cartridges put the muzzle to his neck and pulled the trigger. It seems that he was mistaken in regard to the cartridges being out of the maga zine and that one had gone into the chamber which fired, the ball entering the neck slightly above and to tbe right of the larynx, pass ing almost straight through tbe neck, being located opposite, Death occurred instantly. The body was removed to the residence of Mr and Mrs. J. S. Hayes, from which it was taken the following day to Marshfield for burial. He was an orphan Nephew of H. G. Ploeger with whom he made his home for several years after his ar rival here from Germany, his native country. He was a young man between the age of 19 and 20years.
