He Bays, however, that dur ing the last few years -each year has been em improvement over the preceding one In this respect as the canneries have baen employing a more steady eet of men. It was noticed yesterday that many of the tlshermen were quitting work for the season; and preparing to leave for other llelds. It May Seam Somewhat Long and Te- dlus. But Will Pay Piano and Organ Purchas ers to Read Every Word. The indicator is one of the leadlnir iraue papers, or Chicago, devoted to mu sical art and musical industries. The following extract Is from a two- page article under date of Julv 20. isns and speaks volumes. 'There are few people in- the trade. comiparativelly, who realize just how ex tensive the Kimball factories are. Think or a solid mass of brick and mortar cov erlng over 11 acres of ground epace, or something over 600,000 square feet in ground area! This is the tract covered by the Kimball factories, which Is more than sufficient to meet the rapidly grow' lr.g demand for their goods. Over 7.000 pianos this year! Over 12,000 reed onrans this vear! Just think of this volume of business for one moment. Isn't there something In this to awaken the enthusiasm of the patriotic Chlcapoan? The art of production' has been reduced ny tne vv. w. Kimball Co. to a fine oolnt. They now make In their factories every eniiiB mat is necessary in piano munu facture. The .enterprising manufacturer must save at all corners. This saving is ior mose wno Duy his goods. And It Is required by the Intense competition that mouern nKthoels have generated. The mun who cannot manufacture goods on a ciose margin and make money Is prac tlcally out of the race. Close margins unu large profits 'by r nson of a larger production is the nrle of the day. And In this re.fpect the Kimball Co are better equipped than any manufactur er im the country. They make their Own Plates, thvir own keys, and their own actions. They own their own warerooms and their own factories. Now It is plain to everyone that will stop to think, that all this m.ans a large saving lo rents and in merchandise pro fits. And these are reasons why the Kimball piano Is marching in the van at such a '.ipld rate. This Is one seerot of the wonderful sue cess of the Kimball Co. Sagacity com Mne.l with practical ideas and a thor ough knowledge of the economic situa tlo.-v have made tho- W. W. Kimball Co. a. power in the trade. They are the equal o.f.iy or any piano manufacturing es tablishment In the world." Th'. THE 'HATCHERY. llay a Millon Eggs on the Treays. Mr. H. D. McGuIre came down from Portland last night on the Tvlenhone. He is here to see that no fishing Is done on the river today, and incldentaQly to express to the cannerymen his gratifica tion at the success of the Clackamas hatchery. Speaking of this maitber to an Astorlan representative yesterday, he taicl: "Everything on the Upper Clackamas is getting along splendidly and from this time on we can expect to have all the employes kept very busy. Half a million eggs have been taken up to date and laid on the trays. These are already in pro cess of hatching und before the end of August we wllil have fully four million eggs hatched. There are six men. con stantly at work tending the trays and among them are some who are 'thorough ly acquainted -with every phase of the work. I bu'lieve that the hatchery is go ing to prove Itself the finest enterprise the canners ever went Into, and I am sat isfied that If It is kept up to Its present hrffh standard there will be many mil lions of Chinook salmon In this river within the next four years as a result of its workings. The vicinity of the hatchery at this time of yeur presents a delightful picture, and there is no more beautiful spot In Oregon. The depredations of the vicinity near the hatchery haive after a great deal of trouible on the part of myself End others been put a stop to. Had we rot taken hold of this matter and forced It to an Issue there would have been fifty Indians on the Clackamas today robbing the hatchery of its flsh every hour of the twienty-four. The Indian agent has throughout acted In a very childish man ner. He has totally Ignored the real meaning of our e'lforts and has chosen to believe that we had soma ulterior motive and were not looking after the safety of the flsh or the good of the hatchery. If the Indians' want food fUh there are dozens of other places easy of access where they can get It without disturb ing th-e hatchery." WELCOME NEWS. The Manufacturer's Sale of Pianos and Organs Will be Continued. They Reckoned Without Their Host. It wlJl be welcome news to our citizens who have not been able to take advantage of the special prices and liberal terms offered on pianos and organs by the great Kimball factories, to learn that the W. AV. Kimball Co. will, through their Pa cific Coast representative, Col. L. V. .Moore, continue their special sale at 666 Commercial street just as long as Col. Moore may deem it to their Interest to do so. "This is certainly an unprecedented op portunity for our citizens to secure a Ine Instrument from first hands and save the heavy profits made on pianos and or gans which pass through several hands bifuce they reach the private buyer. A (rreat many have already availed themselves of this opportunity and others, no doivbt, will do. so.
