He was ac companied by Major Heuer, also of the United States engineering corps. At a regular meeting of the Beaver Lodge, No. 35, I. O. O. F., James W. Welch, J. Q. A. Bowlby, C. C. Gramma and C. 8. The said as sessors shall hold office for the period of one year, or until they shall be re moved by the Common Council: The Common Council shall have power and authority to l'amove said assessors or either of them, whenever in the judg ment of said Common Council the said assessors shall appear Incompetent for the duttes of said office, or the work of said assessors shall be unsatisfactory to said common Council. Whenever a vacancy occurs in the board of assess ors for any cause the Common Council shall have power and authority to fill such vacancy at any. .time by nomina tion and appointment, as in th? original Instance. Section 2. The compensation of each of said assessors shall be three dollars per day for each day actually employed In discharging thy ' duties of the said office. Section 3. Before entering upon the discharge of the duties of their office each of said assessors appointed by the Common Council must qualify by taking, subscribing and filing with tin auditor and police ...Judge an oath to faithfully and honestly discharge the duties of the said office to the best of his knowledge and ability. Section 4. The chairman of the com mittee on streets and public ways shall be the chairman of the board of Equal ization.
