J., July 20.-reople here are talkiug about a matter that has all the elements of a successful farce comedy. Last Saturday Peter Finiski and Mary Epswick went from here to Camden to be married, and after the ceremony returned to a saloon kept by Mrs. Lizzie Parcel!, whero Mary had lived as servant and where the wedding reception was to be held. Eor months previous to the wedding liniski and Unas. Jvepwotski had been making love to Mary. Each had equal chances of success apparently, until one night when Finiski, on re turning from a rolling mill, exhibited a big roll of bills. That roll of money secured for him the hand and heart of Mary. It also obtained household good, paid Ji month's house rent in advance and bought a ring. In fact it made Peter and Mary happy. It ata made Itepwotski angry. The latter appeared at the wedding festivities last Snudny night, and threatened to kill Finiski, but Peter did not wait for the slaughter. He left word with his bride that he would return goon, and then he hustled out of the backwav and left the city. Now Mrs. Finiski is angrv and bins her husband is a coward and that she will not live v. tth him if he comes back. A rojwrt has ju&t reached heie of a doublo murder in the Cherokee strip, a few milest south of Cedar Vale, in vestigation proves it to 1k another chapter in the war which is being waged on men who bring foreign cattle into the state. When tho Ivrump and Garner herd was drawn from Cedar Vale to their ranch in the .nlrirw. everv cowbov Avith a herd ' taunted the people of Cedar Yale, with IwMug accomphees of Gibson and Fnizier, and it was with great diSliculty that tnuible was prevented. After the herd had been placed on the much, two of the boys were missed, and it was supposed that they had laken their money and gone off to some town and indulged in n spree. On Wednesday eveniug as three of the men belonging to the camp were going along tho road towards Cedar Vale, their attention was attracted to some buzzards hovering over a spot near by in the grass, and they made an investigation. Here they found that the two miss ing men had been shot from the back and left. Both bodies were lying face down, and their pockets had leen rilled. Part of their clothing was aLo taken. The fact that the robberv was committed on their bodies, sis on the body of Frazicr, led many people here to believe that there is a concerted movement on the part of the outlaws, to mist the troubles over cattle, as a shield for their nefarious work, and thus throw the blame on the people of the country, who are opposing the in troduction of cattle. A ITIAD oo. He Bite." Men, Boys anil Dogs-. Special to Tub Astouiax.1 CmcAao, July 20. Besidenta in the twenty-seventh ward had a wild ex perience with mad dog last night. Early in the earning, a large bull dog came tearing'Jdown the road from Niles, snapping at everything he met. He crossed the river and ran down the main street of Montrose, where a German, whose name was not learned, endeavored to intercept him. The huge beast fastened his jaws on the man's arm, and mutilated it to such an extent that amputation will probably be necessary. He then ran on down the street biting a dozen or more dogs iu the neighborhood. At Irving park he sprang upon two boys, who were playing in the road. One of thom, a son of Mr. Klehm, was frightfully lacerated about the chest, and was taken to the hospital. The other boy, a son of Mr. Gayer, was bitten in the right side. By this time quite a party of citizens were in pur suit of the mad dog. He was followed out into an open field where he turned on his pursuers. One of the party shot and wounded him, and then a man armed with an ice pick struck him a blow iu the neck. The dog fastened his teeth in the handle of the pick, and was pounded to death with a pitchfork before he could release his hold. Some fifty dogs that are supposed to have been in the path of the rabid animal were shot thls.morniug. A I'llKSDNAI, MATT11K. Hani Fight or a Ticket Scalper. Special to Tun Astoriax.1 Chicago, 111., July 20. An attach ment returnable forthwith, was issued by judge McConnell yesterday, against chairman Walker, of the Inter Stato Commerce railway association. It grows out of the fight of the well known ticket scalper, E. A. Milford, against the American Ticket Brokers association, which dropped him from membership. He began mandamus proceedings m Louisville sometime ago, to be reinstated, and also begau several damage snits. This brought out an interesting story, to the effect that soon after the inter state law went into effect, Mil ford closed out his scalping bus iness in Chicago, saying there was no money in it. After ward, it is stated, he was em ployed by the interstate commerce railway association, presumably on account of his intimate acquaintance with the scalping business, to aid the railways in stamping it out It is asserted he was to receive $12,000 a year, but stuck out for the chairmanship of one of the minor or ganizations, in place of beiug merely the head of the secret bureau. Not being able to gain this, he quit the association and went back to scalping, but the ticket brokers in the mean time had thrown him out Tho Louis ville court has directed a notary here to take the deposition of chairman Walker. 350 feet, $40 to MB Austin House, Seaside, Ti: WORLD'S FAIR. Sunday Opening anil the Liquor Question. Special to The Astokiax. PinTiAPEiiPHiA, July 20. Prelimin ary meetings of the committees on the permanent organization of the World's fair, have already developed several important matters. One is that the committee i3 a unit in favor of open iug the doors of the great enterprise on Sundays, with the proviso that the machinery shall not be put in op eration. Another is, that favors the sale of in toxicating liquors at the cafes and restaurants which may be established within tho grounds, while at the same time it does not believe in a public bar. As the committee is largely auto cratic in its powers, and its report will be accepted without question by the main body, these two ideas may bo this early accepted as prospective cer tainties. At the same time there is no doubt that they will encounter strenuous opposition from tho Sab batarian element and the prohibi tionists. Any one who remembers the terrific battle which was waged by the minis ters and laymen of all denominations, against the Sunday opening of thb centennial exposition of 1S7G, will not doubt for a moment that the board of management of the coming exposition, is certain to encounter a tremendous broadside or opposition, coming from all over the country. The committee of permanent organ ization however, will bo firm in its opposition, taking the ground that the educational benefits of the Sun day opening, will be immense, and I that while the raachinerv need not be m operation, people could walk around, rest on the benches, listen to the sacred concerts, and enjoy gener ally tho grand sights before them. So far as the liquor aspect of the ques tion is concerned, tho present propo sition does not? go beyond what was granted at ths centennial. PROSPECTS OF f AR. The English consul at Erzcroum, has telegraphed to the British embassy of this city, that its proper course is to advise the porte to make all haste to reinforce the garrisons of Armenia, if the sultan means to offer any practical opposition to Russian invasion. The consul states that all sorts of war material are literally pouring in an incessant stream through Batonm, and tho transport servico is working night and day. It is firmly believed here that unless Turkey acts quickly, or the European powers take a hand in the business, Russia will secure so strong a hold of Armenia that it will be next to impossible to dislodge her. This will mean another big slice of de sirable strategic territory, added to Russia's J facilities for getting into Persia and Turkey, and England's interests are" certainly involved in some degree. ARMENIA IN TKOUCilji:. Dark War Clouds Are on the Horizon. Special to Tm: Astokiax.j BuciiAicnsT, Roumania, July. 20. The Russian organs of this city declare that the outrageous misrule in Armenia is fully justifying Rnssian intervention. The officials of the sultan are ex torting amounts of taxes several times over, from the unhappy inhabitants, and those who resist are mercilessly bastinadoed, as a punishment and wanting to others. Houses are ran sacked and goods stolen in open defiance of all decency and justice. There is a very stormy time at Ecolo Militaire de Saint Cyr, the French west point The difficulty arose from the time honored custom of Hazing new cadets, or plebes, as they would be called on the Hudson. The other day, against all traditions of the school, one of the men walked into the billard room. Three or four old cadets immediately put the intruder out, but in doing so, the freshman hit one of his assailants a smart blow between the eyes. The senior class was furions at this want . of respect, and took all the mattresses of the freshman class and soaked them in water.
