Notice is hereby Riven that the Com mon Council propose to establish the grade of ixjuemoque street in the City of Astoria as laid out and recorded by John McClure, as follows, to wit: At its intersection with Spruce street at a height of 88 feet above the base of crade-., as established by Ordinance No. 71 of the City of Astoria, entitled an "Ordinance establishing a baso of grades for the streets of Astoria"; at its crossing with Jackson street at a height of 53 feet above said base of grades; at its crossing with Polk street at a height of 33 feet abo e said base of grades ; at its crossing with Geueiee street at a height of 19 feet above said base of grades, and at its intersection with the claim line between the donation land claims of John McClure and J. M. slm el y at a height of 19 f eetbove said base of grades, and unless a remon strance signed by the owners of two thirds of the property fronting on said said portion of said street be filed with the Auditor and Police Judge within lhe days of the final publication of this notice, to wit: on or before Monday, May 'JOth, 1889, the Common Council mil establish said grade. Each bid must be accompanied by a guaranty sigued by one or more respon sible sureties to the effect that if the con tract be awarded to such bidder, that he will within forty-eight hours after no t ce of such reward, enter into contract therefor with good ana sufficient sure ties tor the faithful performance of the work. Section 3 of the act entitled "An act to Srovide for the protection of the salmon sheries of Alaska," approt ed March 2, 1S89, provides that : "Section 3. That Section 1950 of tho Re vised Statutes of the United Mates is here by declared to Include and apply to all the dominion of the United States in the waters of Uehring Sea. and it shall be the duty of the President at a timely season in each year, to Issue his proclamation, and cause the same to be published for one month at least In one newspaper (If any such there be) published at each United btates port of entry on the Pacific coast, warning all per sons -against entering such waters for the purpose of violating the provisions of said section, and he shall also cause one or more vessels of the United states to diligently cruise said waters and arrest all persons and seize all vessels found to be or to have been engaged in any violation of the laws ot the United Mates therein." Now therefore, I, Benjamin Harrison, President of tho United btates, pursuant to the above recited Statutes, hereoy wam all persons against entering the waiers of Uehrlug Sea. within the dominion of the United States, for the purpose of violating the provisions of said section 1D5C. Wash a quart of small white beans and pnt them into a kettle of cold water; the water should cover the beans. Pat in a heaping teaspoon ful ai salt to keep "ilio beans from "mushing." Bring the water' some what slowly to a boil, but 'do not boil "them over five minutes. Then pour the water off and put the beans into an earthen or iron pot. Fat in half or three-quarters ot a pound ot fresh fat pork no lean; salt fat pork, if there is no suspicion ot taint, is just as good. If fresh fat pork is used salt must be added, to the taste. Fill the pot with water to the top of the beans and pork, and add, if fan cied, a half teaspoonful each ot soda and mustard,nnd a teaspoonful of molasses. Bake slowly from six tri twelve liours; a brick oven is pre ferred. Beans are nn econom.cal dish. They contain all the proper ties necessary to nourish brain, bone and sinew. They lack carbon, how ever, and this the pork gives. In order to have pork -and beans Ot for tho gods, the beans should be com pletely saturated with the rich fat of the pork and not soaked with water. A violatioa ot any of the pro visions of this ordinance shall be deemed a misdemeanor, and upon con viction berore the Tollce Judge, the offender or offenders shall be punished by a fine of not less than five nor more than one hundred dollars, or by im prisonment in the city jail not less than three nor more than twenty days.
