S Lndd, the well known banker, denied tho statement of the Seattle Budget that ho J9 backing G. W. Hunt in his extension of the system of feeders for the Northern Pacific & Paget Sound. He says the extent of his con nection with Hunt lies in the fact that he i3 Hunt's banker. A Wild and Dnnserous Trip. Mrs. J- A. Deeds and Mrs. Daniel Cronin deserve mention as having par ticipated in a feat unusual and adven turesome to their sex. They recently made the trip in a small row boat down the Nehalem river to its month. This is a daring feat for a man and an astounding one for two representatives of the eentler sex. The Nehalem is a swift and at times a rocky stream, flowing through great and lonely forests and dark and gloomy More than one party of adventurers who have started from the upper settle ments have bad their boat smverea to cnlintsrs bsfore reaching the bay. Most of tho way through the canyon the 6tream is said to bo a continuous roar ing, boilinR torrent, now leaping over sunken boulders, now gathering against a jutting rock and shooting suddenly to right or left, and now whirling at lizzv sneed in a deen eddv. and thence darting between jagged, irregular rock walls to emerge upon the next and ever changing scenes of peril and excitement. But this party of six made the trip about two weeks ago. 'xney are .airs. Deeds, Mm. Cronin, D. Cronin, J. A. DbmIs. J. W. Foucha. and Jas. Fowler. Their boat was dug out of a cedar log, and is 21K feet long. They started from Eiverside, Columbia Co., and reached tho mouth of tho Ne halem in safety. Something New at Tillamook Rock. Tho U. S. light-houso tender Manxani ta arrived in yesterday from Tillamook rock light-houso, where she landed pro visions, mail, etc. yesterday. Whilo there the keeper regaled the officers and crow with radishes grown on tho rock. Capt. Richardson says. "Xot that they wero so very rich or rare : We wonder bow tho d 1 they cot there." But tho half has not been told. Aided nnd abotted by tho powers that bo, the lonely dwellers on that surf beaten sen tinel are going to havo n real genuine garden wherein they will raise all kinds of truck. Tho38 radishes are only a starter. The Manzanila yesterday landed 26 largo tubs of earth, this will bo spread and mingled with kelp, weed, and pul verized and calcined mussel shells, form ing a rich soil. .The Astobias is in re ceipt of sundry bags of fine seed from Jerry Rusk, commissioner of agricultnre, and will forward them to the head keep er. Visitors to the rock next summer will havo fresh cabbage, onions, beets and peas served them from Tillamook rock light-houso garden. Sequel to Jacobsen's Disappearance. Farther inquiry regarding the mystery surrounding the recent disappearance of H. Jacobscn, tho saddler doing busi ness on Olney street, elicits the state ment that sometime ago a man came here from Kansas City and went to work drivinc a street car. Passing by Jacob- sen's shop one day ho recognized him as a man who had fled from Kansas City pursued by hi3 creditors, and for whose apprehension a reward had beon offered. He let Jacobsen know that he had recog nized him, and that individuals disap Dearance from hero soon after lends col or to tho supposition that ho had sought iresti neius ana pastures new. He treated everv ono sauaro enough here, paid all his bills, made a fair ac counting to bis Portland creditors and left stock and implements enough to sat fyall demands. C. Saiz, en experienced saddler from Portland, now has chargo of tho estab lishment. Who is Your Rest Friend? YouTStomach of course. Why? Be cause if it is out of order you are one of the most miserable creatures irv. ingr. Givo it a fair, honorable chance and see if it is not tho best friend you have m the end. .Don't smoke in the morning. Don't drink in tho morn ing. If you must smoke and drink wait until your stomach is through with breakfast. You can driuk more and smoke more in the evening nnd it will tell on yon less. If your food ferments and does not direst right,- if you are troubled with Heartburn, Dizziness of tho head, coming up of llio food alter eating, uuiousness, in digestion, or any other trouble of the stomach, you bad best use Green's August Flower, as no person can use it without immediato relief. Gone Froa Onr Gaze Like a Dream. Iiast Sunday a young barber working for Joe Giardmo, named Eddie Hddings, skipped town leaving sundry debtors to mourn his loss. From information at hand we learn that this is not the first timo that this young man has done the same thing, having loft Kansas City un der a cloud. It 13 also learned that ho was engaged to an estimable young lady of Astoria. Ho has got tho best of some of our merchants to the tune of two suits of clothes, a gold headed nmbrolla and sundry other articles. Eddings showed a reporter a check for $1,600 about three months ago, and was evidently well fixed, financially. Tito 3Sctt Discovery. You have heard your friends and neigh bors talking about it. lou may your self be one of tho many who know from personal experience just how good a thing it is. If you have ever tried it, you are one of its staunch friends, because the wonderful thing about It is, that when once given trial, Dr. King's New Discovery ever after holds a place in the house. If you have never used it and should bo afflicted with a cough, cold or any Throat, lung or Chest troublo, secure a bottlo at once and give it a fair trial. It is guaranteed every time, or monevref unded. Trial Hottles Free at J. V. Conn's Drugstore IlOIt.V. At Gray's Hirer, April 13, '89, to tho wife of C. A. Anderson, a son. 1IE1. At Gray's River.
