What a grand theme for a poem or essay is the account of the wreck at Samoal And how the patriotic pnlso.of eTery troe American beats as he reads the following, unequaled in Kraphio description of a thrilling spectacle: The storm was still raging with as much fury as at any time during the day. The poor creatures who had been clinging for nours to the rigging of the Vandalia were braised and bleeding, but they held on with the desperation of "men who hnnR by a thread between life and death. The ropes had cnt the flesh on their arms and legs, and their eyes were blinded by the salt spray, which swept over tbem. Weak and exhausted as they were, jhey would be unable to stand the terrible strain .much longer. They looked down upon the angry waters be low them and knsw they had no strength left to battle with the waves. The final hour seemed to be upon them. The great black hull of the Trenton could be seen through the darkness, almost ready to crush into the stranded VandaKa and grind her to atoms. Suddenly a shout was borne across the waters. The Tren fonwas cheering the Vandalia. The sound of 400 voices broke upon the air and was heard above the roar of the tempest. "Three cheers for tho Fcnda lid" was the cry that warmed .the hearts of the dying men in the rigging. The shout died away upon the storm and there came across from the quivering masts of the sunken ship response so feeble that it was scarcely heard on shore. The men, who felt that they were looking death in the faoe, aroused themselves to the effort and united in a faint cheer for the flagship. Those who were stand ing on the shore listened in si lence, for that feeble cry was the sad dest they had ever heard. Every heart was melted to pity. "God help them" was passed from one man to another. The sound of music next came across the water. The Trenton's band was playing "The Star Spangled Banner." The thousands of mon on sea and shore had never before heard strains of musio at such a time as this. An indescribable feeling came over the hundred Americans on the beach, who listened to the notes of the national anthem mingled with the howl of the storm. For a moment only were they silent, and then they broke forth with a cry that rent the air and reached the ears of the struggling men in the rigging of the Vaiidato. In Oklahoma, as elsewhere in the western country, the settlement of the newly opened territory promises to be undertaken upon the simple and well known principle That they should take who have the power. And they should keep who can. J. J. Bartbolomay of Philadelphia made the first horse-blankets of Ameri can goods in 1857. A Life Hade Miserable By dyspepsia Is scarcely worth the living A capricious appetite, .heartburn, puzzlng uervous symptoms, Increased action of the heart after eating, sinking In the abdomen between meals, and flatulence after, are among the successive Indicia of this harass, lng complaint. Tno things only are need ful for its removal. A resort to Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, and persistence In Its use. These remedial measures being adopted, a cure is certain. Taken immediately before or after meals, this great stomachic promotes secretion of the gastric Juice, the natural solvent of the food. The nervous and bilious symptoms consequent upon chronic indiges tion disappear, as the complaint gradually jlelds to the corrective and Invigorating influence of the Bitters. Appetite returns, sleep becomes more refreshing, and as a sequence, the body Js efficiently nourished, muscular power Increases, and the mind grows sanguine. Use the Bitters for chills and fever, and rheumatism. CHIEF OF TOLICE SALE.
