Mrs. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who took so prominent a part in the women's congress at "Washing ton, is 72 years old. She was the chief agency in calling the first "women's rights convention" in tho country, which was held at Seneca Falls, N. Y., in 184S. It was there that shes introduced the famous resolution that the intelli gent world has been debating ever since: "JCcolvea, mat u is the duty of the women of this, country to secure to themselves ths sacred right to the elective franchise." As a result her father (she was then unmarried) actually consulted friends as to the propriety of placing her in an insane asylum. The excise board of New York city issued 9,608 licenses of all grades during the fiscal year end ins April 30th, receiving tho sum of 1,372,040 from the liquor deal ers. George Francis Train has con tracted for a lecture tour with the provision that twenty or more minutes of each lecture shall be devoted to exploiting the history and purposes of the city ot Umalia.
