The Times special from London says: AXAFrancaise published a dispatch though the scare yesterday was the worst since rumors began to circulate, it is not" comparable probable with the pnnic in store for next week, when the German reserves in seven western divisions, numbering 72,000 men, will join their colors. It was not generally known that a" movement was so imminent, and it is believed it will create an excitable impression in France. Despite all pacific assur ance from Paris, I have a state ment confirming Saturday's report that arms, men and munitions of war are being turned eastward. This renders more substantial float ing suspicions that Boulanger is (jetting ready a coup of his own. Belief in war has become such a universal thing that one of the evening papers has an editorial paying there will b peace, and everybody talks about the article a a singular thing. -Paris now, for the first time, re ally bel eves that war is inevitable, and private letters from Berlin and Hanover report geneial prep arations among army officers to provide for the safety of their families early in the spring. Montana cattlemen are greatly alarmed for the future, owing to the overstocking of the ranges. Last year witnessed a heavy influx of cattle brought there to winter. Large herds were brought over the parched trail from the Rio Grande, and in their famished condition placed on ranges already so fully stocked that only a phenomenally mild winter could prevent heavy losses. Tq make matters worse the calf crop was unusually large. Up to Christmas the weather was favorable and all was well, but since then the temperature rang ing aS low as 40 helow and blind, ins: storms, before which cattle drifc in spite of the cowboys1 ef forts, reduce the cattle in flesh and ho weaken them as to make heavy losses inevitable if the cold weath er continues. A Frenchman by the name of Lerov, living in tho woods at Eustis, Me., recently inherited $45,000"bv the death of his giand fat her in Fiance. Leroy had mar ried an Indian woman, and u hearing of the fortune awaiting him in France, left his wife, made the journey there and back again, a sinter of his coming with him. He brought his wife a present of a gold watch and chain and went back to his home in the woods to live as usual. In London not long since, a saintly individual tried to offer up prayer at a meeting of his credit ors. Among tne latter was a rough Scotchman, who, amazed at the coolness of the act, shouted, uSit doon, ye rascally heepocreet! If 'ou say antther wurd to the A I mighty in my presence, dom me if I dinna Icicle ye," etc. 1 he cred itors roared, the petitioner sat down, and the business of the meeting proceeded. There are 25,810 doctors in Great Britain, or one for every 1,350 inhabitants. In France the proportion is one for 1,4()0; in Auhtria, Germany and Norway, one for every 1,500; in the United S'ates, one for every 600, while in Russia there is only one for 6,226. ST. Paris, Feb. 3.Tbe Bevublic from Suez, which states that in the battles betweerrthe Abyssiui ans and the Italians near Masso wah, January 28, the Abyssinians captured all the guns possessed by the Italians. It also says that of 480 Italians in the fight not more than fifty escaped. The dis patch adds that the Italians eva cuated all the advanced positions. Tho Abyssinians have already attacked and carried the first line of Italian entrenchments around Massowah. It is doubtful whether the Italians will be able to hold Massowah until the arrival of re inforcements. The Dalles Sun :Iearns that the surveyors of the Northern Pacific railroad will take the field as carlv as possible in the spring forihei purpose of running a line down the Columbia river on the Warhing ton territory side, from "Waliula to a point opposite the Willamette river.
