The following report o the movements of tho rangers has been received: "Saturday last a fresh Indian trail, running east, was struck on the south side of the San Jose moun tains, in Sonora. The trail was followed to the east end of the San Jose, when it swung north to the Mule mountains. Shortly after the turn in the trail a band of Mexicans were met, who re ported the killing of a countryman by an Apache, near Lioneitos, last Thursday, and that 15 Indi ans had passed through the Mule mountains the day before, going north. This band is no doubt the same that was seen in the Concnas the day before. The trail was getting hotter every hour, and heads straight for San Carlos. Last night a big firu was seen at the foot of Swisshelms: supposed to be the work of another band of 'savages. The trail will be followed to its termination. Scotland Scotland with the natural draw backs of an unpropitious ciimate, unfruitful soil, rugged and profit less mountains, holds her own in the competitions of the world in a perfectly wonderful manner tak ing as its direct opposite the fa vored clime of Mexico, with its silver mines its eternal spring, the sunshine and its vegetation, we find that the rujjo-ed land of the north sends to different nations more productions, both of its soil and its arts, than the favored terri tory of the south, with all its vast proportions. Scotland helps to feed London from her flocks; to her sons the world is indebted for the most powerful and obedient forces in the practical application of steam, and at this da-, while Great Britain builds a larger num mer of iron steamship than all the other nations of Europe put to gether, half of the work is done by the little country of Scotland. How an Artist Treated His Visitor. To the JZdilor of the JSalcm (Mass.) Register. 1 would have j accepted your kind invitation to 1 visit you in vour new quarters with pleasure before this, had not my old enemy, Mr. Rheumatism, pounced on me so sudden!. He arrived last Friday, and, without stopping tosendup his cat d rushed in and grasped me by the hand with such a grip that in a few hours my hand and wrist were so badly swollen and painful that I felt as though one of Mr. Hatch's coal teams had run over me. Mr. Rheumatism has been a constant visitor of mine for several years; alwas swelis, and puts on a great many airs and makes himself at home, devouring my substance and leaving me poor in flesh and pocket. Last winter he came and staid two mouths. I then made up my mind that the next time he came I would change his diet, as he always gobbled down every thing set before him. I was some what at a loss what to feed him with, but finally concluded to give him three square meals a day of St. Jacobs Oil morning, noon and night. This fare ho is disgusted with, and is packing up his truiiu , i :n i u.. I ujju win jcau uy lu-uiurruvt in next day: says he cannot stop anv longer as he has pressing business ' elsewhere, lie is a treachorous fellow, and I have no doubt lie in-i tends visiting sonic of our Salem friends; if he does just give him the same fare that I did and he won't stop long.
