Mobbc. - A terrific tornado which swept through central Iowa last Saturday night killed fifty people, wounded one hundred, and destroyed ovor one mil lion dollars worth of property. Thus far it has met every expectation, and tho builder, Mr. Jonos, of Delaware, is confident that she will giro satisfac tion to hor owners. Mr. ii. It will afford a good medium for advertising and will be at the same time an improvement on tho present antique arrangojuent. On account of tho rain yesterday tho excursion of the Fleetwood to Fort Clatsop was postponed till to- morrow afternoon, when, weather per mitting, our citizens can take a few hours'recreation in viowing tho historic ground where Lewis and Clarke win tered in eighteen hundred and ever so few. To-day thero are all sorts of go ings on up above. Tho sun crosses tho line, enters tho sign of the scor pion, swings higher toward the zenith and shortens ono'a shadow to its smallest limit; tho moon is in apogee, Mercury is in aphelion, Venus swings farthest to the north, and a vast ar ray of other celestial pranks are billed for the occasion. The Stato Democratic Convention of California met at San Jose yester day to nominate candidates for gov ernor and lieutenant-governor. Hearst of San Francisco and Dagget of Sis kiyou seem to have the call for the nominations respectively, though many old timers claim that Hearst hasn't got money enough to get tho nomination. Dangerous Condition ilfti. e unuerstaml that the condition of Scott, who shot a few days ago, was yeftterday afternoon so much worse that Carlson was held under arrest in increased bail of S.OGO, in default of which he was committed to jail. The unfortunate condition of Scott is a matter of sincere regret to his friends and acquaintances. It is alleged that he was simply passing by the house when he received the con tents of Carlsen's gun in his shoulder, and was not even cognizant that Carl sen lived there, much less had any in tent to pay his domicile a visit. 2hat Fish "Wheel. A gentleman who came down from the Cascades, says the Standard, states that ono of tho fish wheels there caught 4,100 salmon in 24 hours. The fish appear to be running m vast num numbcrs, as he saw a man with a dip net catch 78 at the head of an eddy in less than hour. Ho caught three at one scoop. The fish in making tho passage of the cataract are obliged to keep closo to the shore and so arc teadily captured. A law must bo passed by the next legislature to put a stop to this wholesale dostiuvtinu of salmon. Another Body Found. EDirei: Atekiax: On the 14th inst., mi the beach and opposite Mr. .T. L. Stout's old farm houe, tho body of a young man about 20 yc-irs if age, rather dark complexion, and had to very promi nent teeth in the upper jaw. Tho body was naked except pants, which were of line black cloth; it was 5 feet 7 inches in height and of ordinary frame. A t-oilin was taken out from hero and a decent burial given the body,. near where it wa? found. Fur ther information may be had from Roes Williams, uho assisted al tho burial. K. W. Tlwaco, W. T. Lost Off Point Lobo3. The British steamer Ecambria, loaded with wheat for a I'ortngese port, "went to sea from Sin Francisco last Mondav afternoon. The terrible disas ter was seen from lho shore, but, of course, it was impossible to render the unfortunate cre.v any assistance.
