The number of Representatives, in the next House has been fixed at three hundred and twenty-five. This wag the highest number men Mined in the calculations of the Superintendent of the Census. Several were of the opinion that the Hguse was too large now, with two hundred and ninety-thrco members, tind, that instead of in creasing the size, the number should be made less. Others argued that there should be at least six hundred membeis in our Na tional Legislature and worked hard to havo high figures named in the bill. Under the present re gime the ratio of representation is 131,000. Under the new it will be 151,906. The follotfinjr States are affected: Gains Arkansas, 1; California, 2; Georgia, 1; Illinois, 1; Iowa, 2; Kansas, 4; Kentucky,. 1; Massa chusetts, 1; Michigan, 2; Minne sota, 1; Mississippi, 1; Missouri, 1; Nebraska, 2; New York, 1; North Carolina, 1; Ohio, 1; Pennsyl vania, 1 ; South Carolina, 2 ; Texas, 5; Virginia, 1; West Virginia, 1, and Wisconsin 1. Losses Maine, 1; New Hamp shire 1, and Vermont 1. No other States are changed. It will be noticed that the less falls on New England. This will give thirty-Gve new seats in the next House. Of these the South will get fifteen, the North twenty; and those last figures come pretty near showing how it will affect tho next House politically. The Russians always do things on a largo scalo. In qno of their t f - .custom houses there has !)cen a Jjf atffltl Amounting to forty-sis roil- pa'jion .aouars. mere aie a gooa sanjf people in the United States KinUf&aft fdejMthat- everything k honest im tlin. civil servicu nf " "'- otner countries, oecauso it is not often that there are public scan dals. Tho occasional glimpses that are given justify the belief that there are a thousand times more corruption in Europp. It is to be borne in mind that the Eu ropean press docs not take upon itself tho functions of an accuser or grand jury, and that when any thing is said about rascality, it has already been proven by tho rep resentatives of the government who made the investigation. In our own land, a considerable part of tho press is always trying to prove that the public men on the other side are great rascals; and the majority of the accusations are without foundation. The noise about South Ameii tsnn matters wai evidently started for the purpose of injuring Blaine, sud the first reports were well cal culated to effect that object. Since he commenced to talk back, affairs present a very different ap-l pearance, and it now seems as if those who began the onslaught would have been better pleased had they kept silent. .It is un fortunate that his opponents should attempt to raise a question of veracity between him and the President! It must result badly. It was long since predicted that Blaine might be abused into a nomination, and it begins to look that way. His enemies could not aid Hm more materially than bv keeping him before the public by their constant onslaughts. It will naturally force him into tlt6 posi- tton ot that great element' of the Repulican party who are opposed to any third term and the regency of the Conkling-Casneron-Logau triumvirate. Gov. Lee, of Wyoming, reports that female suffrage in that terri tory had not broken up families, and on one occasion husband and wife one a Democrat, the other a Republican were candidates for tho same office, without causing domestic trouble. The editor of tho Standard ar gues that since his paper is Demo cr.ttic it cannot favor monopolies. ! He says: "If the corporations v-hich Mr. Villard represents shall attempt to control Oregon politics we shall certainly make it warm for him on that lay out, be it in the interest of ono or the other party." This is iair warning to all the trembling cohorts that rank beneath the hostile banners: I5QK.V. At Fort Caubv, IV. T., February imii. to the wife of W. S. Block a son.
