It ib encouraging1 to note the increas ing interest in the New York "Worlds Fair of 1SS:). But there i:s yet ample room for continued increase. AsyK the general pub lic seems, haidly aware that Mich an exposition is to be held. There is palpable indifference on the sub ject among the masses. Hut it does not lequire many months to get up an excitement in this coun try on a matter that concern the people. And if this busiue.ss is en ergetically and sagaciously worked, popular enthusiasm will be aroused in time to insure the success of the enterprise. A resolution has passed congress, inviting foreign - nations to participate in the great exhibition. How far this action will be held as committing the government to afford material aid, we are not advised. It is best to "have no misunderstanding on thiv point. If the government invites foreign powers to take pait in this great show, and does not expressly disclaim responsibility for it, we shall soon have the claim set up, as it was in relation to the Phila delphia exhibition, that the au thorities of the United States hare ' committed the government to the extent of voting money enough to prevent a possible failure. All the state ought to be represented, each having: a building and mak ing a display of its products. This would lead to such rivalry as would add greatly to the number and at tractiveness of exhibits. There cannot be too much ot sectional jealousy and state pride ou Mich an occasion, for this feeling makes each state and section do its best. Hut such jealousy of Xcw York, our great commercial emporium, as would induce other cities to give the exhibition a cold shoulder, is too narrow a spirit for patient tolerance. New York is the proper place for a Worlds Fair, if Tie are to have one. And the true policy ef all the states, cities aud people is to get up an interest in it as soon as possible and resolve to astonish the millions Who will visit Gotham in the summer of 1883. i. . i. A man has been offered 20,00- for a lot in Minneapolis that he purchased for $11 . The American miller puts the area of the United States avail able for wheat at 4-70,000,000 acres. A sleeping ear costs, on an avei .age about 12,000, and earns about $1,000 a month. Pretty good profit. The highest price ever paid for Chicago leal estate was $4,125 per improved front foot, and the sale was recently made. An exchange tells of a youug lady who, six months after a happy mar--riaye, on being asked if she was much troubled with cold feet, simpered hesi tatingly and with ingenious-simplicity: "Ye-yes: but but the're not my own." Jf all the dog, weie sent to Lap land, the law j era to Lie-beria, the donkeys to Bray-zil, the lovers to Sigh-beria, the editors to News xealand, and the hey-hole angels to l'eer-u, the eternal iitness of things would have equilibrium down to a fine point. In this age of the world, unless the name of a busiiios linn is kept constant! before the public, some new mm inaj start up, and. by liberal adveitising, in a wry short time take the place of the older ones, and the latter l list out, as it ei e, and be forgot ten. Thev could not be seen from the vessel or town, sis it is about one and a half miles from the lauding to the seene of the accident. About 1? o'clock, noon, the came to the wharf, beai ing with them the body. All efforts to revive proved un availing;we only desisted when the Doctor, A. H. Smiley, pronounced on examination of the remain-, the case hopeless, as the backbone was fractured, probably by the force of the waves sigainst the rocks. At four in the afternoon the coroner held the inquest and si verdict was rendered of accidental drowning, precipitated by the hurt in the oack. The e'e witnesses stated that Mr. Hall never uttered a word or shriek, while in the water, aud the doctor's, opinion is, that the hurt in the back wsis sulHcient to parary.e him. thus preventing suiy efforts of his own to save himself. Any oidinary swimmer would have been able to flosit, and await the coming of the boat, which was tied to a rock only a hundred yards off. The burial took plack at 6:30 i. m., accompanied by the resi dents of the village, to whom we are greatly indebted for their kind ness and accommodation in this case. We, the whole crew of the Alex. Duncan, carried the remains to its hist resting place, and never was man burried that had so en tirely the rc-pect and affection of his shipmates. Mr. Hall was hur ried in a grave dug by his own companions, in a place on the north side of the Moro Lumber company s land, mere is no reg ular cemetr there, aud we are indebted to Mr. .1. M. .Ionian, of Moro city, for the site. Doctor Smiley declined any fee, and all the residents assisted with a good will, Mrs E. 13. Stocking furnished a beautiful bocjuet of flowers. The grave is fenced in, and we will have a head-board painted to grace its site; ladies from Moro city have volunteered to plant flowers on the grave, and so we must leave sdl that is eaithly of L.
