If any of the builders at Astoria, intending to use brick the coming season, will call at The Asxoilb&x of fice we will show thembriek made in this county which we feel safe in say ing recommends itself. The maker of this material has spent several hun dreds of dollars in the experiment which has proved foeyond any reason able doubt that he can manufacture the article here. If the people will only aid his enterprise by properly encouraging it, Mr. Smith will do for Astoria whatihe brick makers have done for Portland. Clatsop is to-day one of the richest counties in the whole northwestern territory, if the natural resources are only developed. The brick which we have here on ex hibition were made in a crude sort of way, but out of a kiln of 20,000 dt would be difficult to find better samples in any portion of the state. Court Proceedings. The difference is wholly owing to the inconveniences oT transportation, and unless something is done to enable Shoalwater bay to lay its oysters down in the markets at less rates than at present, the trade will be ruined in a short time.
