PHOTOS BY MIKE SMITH & CAMERON JAGOE/SIUSLAW PHOTOS Tribal Council votes to give emergency funds On Sept. 209, the Con- federated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians Tribal Council vot- ed unanimously to approve Emergency COVID-19 As- sistance to all qualified cur- rent full- and part-time em- ployees of CTCLUSI Tribal Government and all Tribal Enterprises. This includes Three Rivers Casino Flor- ence and Coos Bay, Ocean Dunes Golf Links and Blue Earth. The Tribal Council has determined it is imperative to provide general welfare assistance on an emergency basis to eligible citizens ex- periencing financial needs resulting from this national pandemic incurred between March 1, 2020, and Oct. 1, 2021, including, but not limited to, increased costs of living expenses such as food, housing, utilities, medical and other anticipat- ed and unanticipated living expenses and income losses. Tribal Council Chair Debbie Bossley said, “COVID-19 has affect- ed our Tribal community much longer than imag- ined. Tribal Council recog- nizes that it has had some devastating effects on many of us. We are honored to have the resources to offer assistance to staff and their families during this diffi- cult time.” This is to provide emer- gency economic assistance to eligible citizens, who have experienced financial hard- ships during the COVID-19 pandemic, utilizing CARES Act funding in the amount of $1,000 for each approved eligible applicant. The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians is a federally recognized Tribe made up of three tribes (four Bands): two bands of Coos Tribes: Hanis Coos (Coos Proper), Miluk Coos; Lower Umpqua Tribe; and Siuslaw Tribe. The Tribes trace their ancestry back to the aboriginal inhabitants of the South-Central coast of Oregon. The Tribes employ more than 600 employees through its government and enterprise functions. The Florence Area Cham- ber of Commerce wants to know what you think Flor- ence needs from a business and services perspective. “We are sending out a sur- vey to people and business- es in the area using mail, social media, and email. We want to hear from every sector of our community,” said Chamber President/ CEO Bettina Hannigan. The survey is live at https:// bit.ly/FACCSurvey2021 and can be found on the Blog tab at FlorenceChamber. com. As a special incen- tive, the chamber is doing a drawing from all the com- pleted surveys to give away four $50 gift certificates. The chamber wants to hear from retired people, educators, businesspeople, medical workers, stay-at- home parents, schoolkids, nonprofits, civic clubs, “and everyone and anyone who has a stake at any level in town,” Hannigan added. In Florence, the chamber is a powerful convener of lead- ership, catalyst for commerce, and a champion for the com- munity. The chamber advo- cates for businesses with lo- cal, state, and national elected officials to promote solutions for businesses; provides ex- clusive referrals to members from those who ask which businesses to buy from; hosts free seminars on business op- erations, security, leadership training, and marketing; and connects members through networking events.
