First place went to Lial Robenson with a captivating picture of the front of Krab Kettle in Florence in the evening with all the signs in its window being backlit. Ed Wilent was awarded sec- ond place with a picture of an old building in Oakland, Ore., with a sign painted on the side, and then creatively added a sign for promoting the Viewfinders. Last year, the Friends of the Library were able to donate $18,500 directly to the district and anoth- er $4,000 to the library’s Western Lane Community Foundation Endowment Fund, with most of these funds coming from book sales. Some of the items the Friends’ donations have helped fund include an HVAC system for the Ma- pleton Branch, a new mo- bility scooter for the main branch, books for the end- of-summer reading pro- gram book giveaways for children, some of the costs of the roof replacement at the main branch and, most recently, the new circulat- ing game collection, in- cluding the cabinet for the game collection.
