State Senator Arnie Roblans (right) was in town for the cere- mony and spoke briefly of the need for any type of housing, but in particular affordable, low-cost housing, for the Florence community. Mayor Joe Henry recapped the process which resulted in the City selling the undeveloped parcel of property to the Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services and the Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation (NEDCO). Those two organizations have since merged and the leaders of the new entity, DevNW, were also on hand to celebrate the first tangible steps made towards the goal of completing the first development of its kind in the county. Last year’s event brought an estimated 200 partici- pants with 40 vendors on hand. This year’s event plans to be even bigger.
